Position Summary

The Controls Installer is responsible for installing building automation and control system components in accordance with project plans, specifications, and industry standards. This includes wiring, mounting, configuring, and verifying automation devices and related equipment. The role ensures high-quality workmanship, accurate documentation, and effective communication with project teams throughout the installation and start-up process.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Automation & Controls System Installation

  • Install building automation systems (BAS), direct digital control (DDC) components, controllers, sensors, actuators, and related devices.
  • Route, terminate, and label control wiring according to drawings, standards, and codes.
  • Mount and install control panels, network devices, and field equipment required for system operation.
  • Interpret electrical diagrams, control schematics, and installation guidelines.
  • Ensure all installations meet quality expectations, operational requirements, and manufacturer specifications.

Support for System Start-Up & Commissioning

  • Assist commissioning or programming personnel with device checks, equipment start-up, and functional testing.
  • Perform pre-functional tasks, including point verification, equipment labeling, and field adjustments.
  • Support troubleshooting efforts and apply corrective actions during system bring-up.
  • Help prepare projects for turnover and assist with punch-list resolution.

Project Communication

  • Provide timely updates to Project Managers and Controls Technicians on site progress and upcoming needs.
  • Communicate schedule variances, installation challenges, and required documentation changes.
  • Maintain daily activity logs, installation records, and progress reports.

Financial & Operational Support

  • Support operations leadership by reviewing labor usage when required and assisting with corrective action plans.
  • Execute tasks efficiently to support budget adherence and productivity targets.

Technical Knowledge & Professional Development

  • Maintain updated knowledge of building automation technologies, installation methods, and industry best practices.
  • Attend approved training programs, workshops, and safety sessions.
  • Review product data, equipment specifications, and control diagrams to ensure accurate installations.

Documentation & As-Builts

  • Update as-built drawings and control system documentation to reflect field changes accurately.
  • Ensure timely submission of updated documents to project management.

Teamwork & Collaboration

  • Exhibit a positive, professional attitude and contribute to a collaborative work environment.
  • Assist in training new team members and share technical knowledge with colleagues.
  • Participate in meetings and support overall project success as needed.
