Transition Manager - Mainframe z/OS systems migrations
- This job is REMOTE / Work from home
- Contract - 6-12 months plus. There is potential for Hire in future
- Our Client is a well known IT Infrastructure Data Center hosting / IT Services Company
- CLIENT FACING ROLE - You will be the technical point of contact with the end client
- Role requires a understanding of technical mainframe systems and how they all connect. The platform is z/OS (Mainframe), but with any z/OS project, there will be Storage - DASD and Virtual tape solutions, CICS, DR. Our most common solutions are leveraging IBM DASD & Virtual Tape, and sometimes include Dell, Hitachi, and Luminex technologies.
- The Mainframe TM with the aid of a dedicated implementation team will utilize several processes to collect operational details and requirements from the customer. The intention is to create high level process for the technical run teams to assume the daily operational responsibilities. Defined by the SOW and with support of the Sales Team and Program Management, the Transition Manager will run the information collection, mock migrations and systems validation that will conclude with a final cutover to a new hosted production environment. (There is a Project manager in the team to do PM work.)
REQUIREMENTS
- 8-10 years experience working within a z/OS environment.
- Familiarity with mainframe functional areas such as z/OS Operating System, Storage, Databases, CICS, and Disaster Recovery concepts.
- Ability to host meetings and conference calls to run information collection, mock migrations and systems validation.
- Ability to create technical documentation, lead technical discussions, perform research for mainframe related technology. Coordinate hardware installations with vendors.
- Must be self-motivated and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel to a level of creating documents which can be shared with clients.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead transitions of services for Mainframe clients into the Company's support. Work as a liaison to the client during the transition and be the conduit between the Company's mainframe resources with the clients' internal IT staff
- Understand the mainframe technical and functional areas well enough to involve the appropriate resources as needed to ensure a successful migration.
- Running large scale meetings for technical teams to exchange information and discuss solutions will be a daily occurrence for this position.
- As discrepancies are uncovered during the migration, the Transition Manager will determine if these are in-scope or if the client needs to be engaged to solution.
- The Transition Manager will report status to a Project Manager who is responsible for keeping the entire project on task.
- The Transition Manager is not responsible for network, security, ITSM, and other aspects of Company's support but rather limited to the Mainframe systems support
- Will attend meetings to review proposed solutions prior to solutions being presented to clients. Attending sales calls to assist in the sales process will be common.
- Will serve as escalation point during client migrations to find solutions for identified blockers
