JOB TITLE: Database Administrator Level 1-4 (TCU Represented)

SALARY RANGE:

Level 1 $62,812- $89,731

Level 2 $69,092 - $98,703

Level 3 $76,001 - $108,573

Level 4 $83,601- $119,430

SUPERVISOR: Senior Director, Product Development

LOCATION: 2 Broadway

HOURS OF WORK: 9:00 am - 5:00 pm/8 hrs. or as required.

DURATION: Open Until Filled

Summary:

The primary purpose of this position is to design, implement, maintain, tune, and optimize all MTA databases to meet current and future software application requirements.

Responsibilities:

Level 1
  • Assist with the design, installation, configuration, and maintenance of database technologies and resources to ensure that all MTA application and system availability targets are met.
  • Perform database administration tasks, including but not limited to defining data process flows, data modeling, data migrations, security, and fine tuning database performance.
  • Assist with the installation, configuration, and maintenance of database software modules and applications.
  • Assist with the development of system backup schedules, verification testing, and all related documentation requirements.
  • Work with system administrators, network administrators, help desk staff, and other IT technical resources to coordinate database infrastructure requirements and analyze/troubleshoot issues as they arise.
  • Ensure all required system documentation and record keeping requirements associated with maintaining and controlling IT assets are completed accurately, timely, and in accordance with MTA policies and procedures and department requirements.
  • Participate in the evaluation of new database products and technologies.

Level 2

Same as Level 1 with the following additional responsibilities:
  • Design, installation, configuration, and maintenance of database technologies and resources to ensure that all MTA application and system availability targets are met.
  • Design, configure, and install database software modules and applications.
  • Guide less senior database technicians and staff in the performance of their tasks

Level 3

Same as Level 2 with the following additional responsibilities:
  • Develop system backup schedules, verification testing, and all related documentation requirements.
  • Design and engineer solutions and standards to be applied within the IT Department.
  • Assist with the physical planning associated with the installation of database technology.

Level 4

Same as Level 3 with the following additional responsibilities:
  • Participate in the evaluation of new database products and technologies and influence future direction, and provide input into the overall impact of introducing the technology in the MTA environment.
  • Design, engineer, and document solutions and standards to be applied within the IT Department.
  • Contribute to the planning and coordination of tasks associated with database installations, support, and maintenance.

Qualifications

Level 1
  • Basic knowledge and familiarity with installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting database technology, including computer hardware, operating system software, and storage area network equipment, as it relates to the proper installation and performance of the databases.
  • Solid knowledge of MTA standard shell scripting used to automate database tasks.
  • Basic knowledge of general purpose programming languages used to support the automation of database tasks.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and support technical issues both remotely and on-site using standard MTA tools and techniques.
  • Ability to read and understand schematic diagrams, technical manuals, and documentation such that supported equipment and software can be maintained with minimal training.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills.

Level 2

Same as Level 1 with the following additional qualifications:
  • Proven knowledge and familiarity with installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting database technology, including computer hardware, operating system software, and storage area network equipment, as it relates to the proper installation and performance of the databases.
  • Proven knowledge of MTA standard shell scripting used to automate database tasks.
  • Solid knowledge of general purpose programming languages used to support the automation of database tasks.
  • Ability to provide technical direction to less senior staff members.

Level 3

Same as Level 2 with the following additional qualifications:
  • Strong knowledge and familiarity with installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting database technology, including computer hardware, operating system software, and storage area network equipment, as it relates to the proper installation and performance of the databases.
  • Ability to design & engineer solutions and standards

Level 4

Same as Level 3 with the following additional qualifications:
  • Advanced knowledge and familiarity with installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting database technology, computer hardware, operating system software, and storage area network equipment as it relates to the proper installation and performance of the databases.
  • Advanced knowledge of MTA standard shell scripting used to automate database tasks.
  • Advanced knowledge of general purpose programming languages used to support the automation of database tasks.
  • Ability to plan activities and provide advanced technical direction to less senior staff members.

Education and Experience

Level 1
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related discipline; or a minimum of 3 years' experience with programming, systems administration, and/or database administration disciplines.
  • Must possess a minimum of 2 years' experience installing, maintaining, administering, and supporting computer hardware, operating systems, software (UNIX, LINUX & Windows), and database products such as Oracle and MS-SQL.

Level 2
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related discipline; or a minimum of 5 years' experience with programming, systems administration, and/or database administration disciplines.
  • Must possess a minimum of 3 years' experience installing, maintaining, administering, and supporting computer hardware, operating systems, software (UNIX, LINUX & Windows), and database products such as Oracle and MS-SQL

Level 3
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related discipline; or a minimum of 7 years' experience with programming, systems administration, and/or database administration disciplines.
  • Must possess a minimum of 5 years' experience installing, maintaining, administering, and supporting computer hardware, operating systems, software (UNIX, LINUX & Windows), and database products such as Oracle and MS-SQL

Level 4
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related discipline; or a minimum of 10 years' experience with programming, systems administration, and/or database administration disciplines.
  • Must possess a minimum of 8 years' experience installing, maintaining, administrating and supporting, computer hardware, operating systems software (UNIX, LINUX & Windows) and database products such as Oracle and MS-SQL

OTHER INFORMATION:

This is a resume-based position in the collective bargaining unit represented by the Transportation Communications Union (TCU) and will be governed by the terms of the associated TCU collective bargaining agreement for IT employees. As such, candidates selected for this position will be represented by TCU and be on the MTA payroll. In addition, candidates selected may be required to work at any MTA Agency location.
