General Summary:
UNUM is seeking a Sr. Network Engineer to join our growing team. This individual will be responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining, and supporting our enterprise network infrastructure. The Sr. Network Engineer must have strong expertise in core networking areas such as routing, switching, and firewalls, along with proficiency in several additional domains, including VPN platforms, IoT management, network access, wireless technologies, cloud environments, and automation scripting.

This role involves regular collaboration with technical teams and business application stakeholders to provide or receive technical guidance. A solid understanding of multiple computing platforms (physical, virtual, and cloud) is essential, as is the ability to quickly adapt to a complex, large-scale environment.

This is a hybrid role that requires a minimum of 2 days onsite at one of our campuses: Atlanta, GA, Chattanooga, TN, Portland, ME, or Columbia, SC.

Job Specifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., CCNP, CCIE, AWS Solutions Architect) are a plus.
Technical Expertise
  • Proven experience supporting large-scale LAN, WAN, and data center networks.
  • In-depth knowledge of networking protocols (e.g., OSPF, BGP, IPSec, QoS).
  • Proficiency with Cisco, Arista (VXLAN, EVPN), firewalls, and collaboration systems.
  • Hands-on experience with tools like Wireshark, NetFlow, and IT monitoring solutions.
Additional Skills
  • Familiarity with identity management (Active Directory, Azure AD, MFA).
  • Experience with cloud networking (AWS, Azure).
  • Knowledge of ITIL processes (incident, problem, and change management).
  • Ability to analyze and resolve complex technical issues.
Soft Skills
  • Strong communication skills, able to convey complex ideas clearly.
  • Team-oriented with a collaborative mindset.
  • Adaptability to learn and implement new technologies.
  • Agile methodology experience preferred.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Network Design & Support
  • Architect, maintain, and provide advanced support for:
    • Firewalls (Next-Gen)
    • Wireless networks
    • Network Access Control (NAC)
    • Cloud proxies and Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA)
    • Load balancers and IP Address Management
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for Network Access Control (e.g., Forescout, Cisco ISE).
  • Troubleshoot and resolve Level 3 escalations, ensuring adherence to ITSM protocols.
  • Optimize network performance through monitoring, analysis, and reporting.
Technical Leadership
  • Partner with IT architecture teams to align implementations with strategic roadmaps.
  • Evaluate and implement emerging network technologies and service offerings.
  • Collaborate with cloud providers (AWS, Azure) to integrate network solutions.
  • Mentor team members and foster knowledge sharing.
Security & Compliance
  • Design and enforce information security controls to protect network assets.
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies, external regulations, and disaster recovery plans.
  • Manage integration of third-party solutions with enterprise systems.
Operational Excellence
  • Align network solutions with business priorities and strategy.
  • Manage capacity and sustainability of infrastructure to meet future demands.
  • Drive process improvements to enhance efficiency and scalability.

The base salary range for applicants for this position is listed below. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.
$89,400.00-$183,500.00
