Sr. Telecom Engineer - Telephony Engineering
Location: Westerville, OH or Pheonix, AZ (Hybrid: 4 days onsite)
Type: Contract-to-Hire
About the Role
We're looking for a seasoned Telecom Engineer with deep expertise in enterprise telephony systems to help design, optimize, and support our communications infrastructure. This role is critical to ensuring scalable, reliable, and secure voice solutions across both on-prem and cloud environments. You'll collaborate cross-functionally to drive innovation, resolve complex issues, and mentor technical teams.
Responsibilities
Architect, configure, and maintain enterprise-grade telephony platforms
Lead initiatives to modernize telecom infrastructure, including cloud migration and capacity planning
Provide Tier 3 support and serve as a technical escalation point for voice-related issues
Evaluate and implement emerging technologies to improve system performance and user experience
Collaborate with Helpdesk and engineering teams to ensure seamless operations
Participate in on-call rotation and perform proactive system maintenance
Document technical designs and contribute to change management processes
Minimum Qualifications
Extensive experience with Microsoft Teams Phone (primary focus)
5-7+ years supporting Cisco UC platforms: CUCM, UCCX, CUBEs, Unity, Finesse, Calabrio
Hands-on experience with Genesys Cloud (PureCloud)
Proficiency in network analysis tools: Wireshark, Audiocodes Syslog, SSH, Putty, SIP
Strong background in IOS/firmware upgrades and system patching
Applied knowledge of ITIL frameworks, especially change management and service design
Proven ability to mentor engineers and support teams
Excellent communication and documentation skills
Preferred Qualifications
Experience designing hybrid telephony environments
Familiarity with enterprise security and compliance standards for voice systems
Ability to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions
