This is an internal (and external to IT) client facing position that requires excellent customer service skills and interpersonal communication skills (listening/verbal/written). One must be able to; manage difficult or emotional client situations; Respond promptly to client needs; Solicit client feedback to improve service; Respond to requests for service and assistance from clients; Meet commitments to clients.

Education and/or Experience
BS/BA and 6+ years' experience or equivalent combination of education and experience, and 2 years of SME in respective areas. Prior PBM or healthcare experience is helpful but not required.

Work Location
This position must work on-site at the San Diego Headquarters or at the Tempe, Arizona site for purposes of providing adequate support to internal clients; being available for face-to-face interactions and coordination of work with other employees, colleagues, clients, or vendors; as well as for facilitation of quick and effective decisions through collaboration with stakeholders. Remote work is not an option for these purposes.
Working Hours
This is an exempt level position requiring one to work the hours needed to get the job done. Therefore one must have the flexibility to work beyond traditional hours and be able to work nights, weekends or on holidays as required. This may be changed from time to time to meet the needs of the business. Typical core business hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm.

The Database Engineer III is responsible for key areas which includes Database programming, application/operations support, rotational on-call service, issue resolution, documentation and departmental support. Additionally, this position:
- Supports database management activities including production data modification requests
- Gains a thorough understanding of functional requirements for new software requests.
- Works with Business Systems Analysts to understand and clarify data change requests, reporting requirements, and new database development requirements.
- Designs, develops and performs testing of software to meet functional requirements.
- Performs process analysis and recommends data and structural changes to improve application performance.
- Practices good software engineering techniques and standards to reduce coding errors and ensures robustness and efficiency of work products.
- Partners with software team in the development of the software engineering processes.
- Works to identify and resolves technical or product problems.
- Participates in software project meetings and provides status reports.
- Translates technical designs into working software.
- Maintains up-to-date documentation for all supported data management processes, gathers and reports data related system statistics.
- Collaborates with team members and partners with others as needed to ensure successful completion of assigned database development tasks.
- Participates in code reviews and incorporates recommendations.
- Applies software engineering and Object Oriented Design principles in creating UML diagrams and technical design documents for software components.
- Partners with team members and technical project lead to ensure component design fits in with the overall solution.
- Adopts new techniques and technologies.
- Initiates attendance at job related training to keep skills current; maintains current understanding of the industry's best practices.
- Assists with mentoring and training of less experienced IT staff members.

- Six (6) plus years of experience with Database design, data mapping between cross functional application, and best practices for data pipelines
- Six (6) plus years of experience in development of database processes using functions, procedures, triggers, views in Oracle, MSSQL, PostGreSQL and Unix shell scripting
- Excellent knowledge of debugging, tuning and optimizing performance of database queries
- Thorough knowledge of software methodologies, distributed networking, databases, communications, and multiprocessing applications
- Strong experience in designing database objects using partitioning and sharding.
- Strong experience in maintaining data per data retention policy
- Strong experience in in data provisioning with masking and anonymization for lower environment.
- Strong ETL and data modelling experience
- Strong proficiency in database interfacing and relational database management systems.
