We are currently seeking a Director of Applications Engineering for an onsite position in Cary, NC.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for all aspects of project development and product maintenance over the entire product life cycle (initiate, plan, execute, control, support), including product launch activities
  • Manage product release for all departmental products (50-60) and projects
  • Manage departmental financial components and resources, including staffing profile currency and interdepartmental reviews
  • Mentor and coach employees
  • Ensure software development best practices are followed consistently across the teams, including estimation, design reviews, security considerations, code inspections, quality assurance, and planning activities, and set software engineering standards where gaps exist
  • Develop and understand the system scope and project objectives, as well as the role and function of each team member, to effectively coordinate the activities of the team
  • Assemble project teams, facilitating assignment of individual responsibilities, identifying appropriate resources needed and developing schedule to ensure timely completion of releases
  • Schedule and facilitate project reviews
  • Manage relationships within project teams to include between project teams and functional groups, between project team and senior management, and between project and the customer
  • Create project plans, including issue list, action items, and status reports, as well as adhere to internal project methodologies
  • Identify and resolve project issues and risks, including tracking, escalation, and mitigation
Skills & Qualifications:
  • 5 to 7 years of technical experience (i.e., application development, Java, AWS)
  • 3 years of managing an application development team (Java)
  • In-depth knowledge of relational database theory and 1 year of experience with a relational database product
  • Strong people management, cloud technologies, and back-end development experience
  • Demonstrated proficiency, understanding, and currency with technological advancements and development practices
  • Experience with Agile methodologies (or similar development methodologies)
  • Previous hands-on object-oriented development experience (object inheritance, encapsulation, and object reuse)
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, organization and planning skills
  • Capable of managing multiple projects in a fast-paced cross-functional development environment
Education/Certifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related discipline
  • PMP Certification is preferred
