Location: Alpharetta, GA / Frisco, TX / Berkeley Heights, NJ / Columbus, OH / Lincoln, NE (100% Onsite M-F)

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Retail Banking Subject Matter Expert (SME) with strong expertise across retail banking operations, payments, cards, and digital banking technologies. This role will play a critical part in shaping, guiding, and optimizing retail banking and payment solutions, ensuring alignment with industry best practices, regulatory standards, and evolving customer expectations.The ideal candidate brings deep knowledge of retail banking products, card and payment ecosystems, digital channels, and core banking technologies, along with the ability to collaborate across business, technology, and compliance teams.

Key Responsibilities:

Subject Matter Expertise

  • Act as the primary SME for retail banking, payments, and card platforms, including systems, processes, and operations.
  • Provide expert guidance on retail banking, digital payments, card networks, and industry trends, best practices, and regulatory changes.
  • Advise on customer experience improvements, product innovation, and operational efficiency across banking and payment channels.

Process Optimization

  • Analyze end-to-end retail banking, payments, and card workflows to identify inefficiencies and improvement opportunities.
  • Recommend enhancements to improve operational efficiency, scalability, and customer satisfaction.
  • Drive process automation and digitization initiatives across account servicing, payments, and card operations.

Product & Service Development

  • Collaborate with business and technology teams to design and enhance products including:
    • Checking and savings accounts
    • Consumer loans and mortgages
    • Debit, credit, and prepaid cards
    • Payments (P2P, ACH, RTP, wallets, bill pay)
  • Support the definition and launch of new retail banking and payment products aligned with market demand.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to design and implement digital banking solutions, including mobile, online, and self-service channels.

Payments & Cards Expertise

  • Provide domain leadership across card lifecycle management, authorization, settlement, dispute handling, and chargebacks.
  • Support initiatives related to digital wallets, contactless payments, and real-time payments.
  • Ensure alignment with card network rules (Visa, Mastercard, etc.) and payment regulations.

Regulatory & Compliance Advisory

  • Ensure retail banking, payments, and card processes comply with applicable laws, regulations, and internal controls.
  • Provide guidance on compliance areas including KYC, AML, PCI-DSS, data privacy (GDPR), and consumer protection.
  • Partner with risk and compliance teams to address regulatory impacts on banking and payment products.

Customer Experience & Insights

  • Recommend strategies to enhance customer engagement and experience across banking, payments, and card channels.
  • Support the design of customer-centric solutions that improve usability, personalization, and digital adoption.
  • Leverage customer insights and behavior analysis to influence product and service enhancements.

Training & Mentorship

  • Conduct knowledge-sharing and training sessions for internal teams on retail banking, payments, cards, and digital platforms.
  • Mentor junior team members and provide domain leadership across projects and initiatives.

Technology Enablement

  • Partner with IT and architecture teams to design, implement, and optimize banking, payment, and card technology solutions.
  • Ensure platforms are secure, scalable, high-performing, and compliant with regulatory standards.
  • Support integration with core banking systems, payment gateways, and third-party vendors.

Stakeholder Management

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for retail banking, payments, and card-related queries.
  • Communicate key insights, risks, and recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Collaborate with vendors and fintech partners to ensure solution alignment with business and regulatory requirements.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor s degree in Banking, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in retail banking, payments, cards, product management, or consulting.
  • Strong knowledge of retail banking products, payment systems, and card platforms.
  • Experience with digital banking technologies and omnichannel delivery.
  • Solid understanding of banking and payments regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven experience driving process improvement and operational efficiency initiatives.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional certifications in banking, payments, or financial services.
  • Experience working with fintechs, payment processors, or banking technology vendors.
  • Familiarity with Agile, hybrid, or traditional project delivery methodologies.
  • Exposure to banking modernization, digital transformation, or cloud-based platforms.
