At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We're working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!

This role is part of the New Shepard program. New Shepard is a reusable suborbital rocket system designed to take astronauts and research payloads past the Karman line - the internationally recognized boundary of space. Through operational reusability, New Shepard supports our mission of lowering the cost of access to space.

We are a diverse team of collaborators, doers, and problem-solvers who are relentlessly committed to a culture of safety. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable space flight. Join us in lowering the cost of access to space and enabling Blue Origin's vision of millions of people living and working in space to benefit Earth.

As part of a passionate and accomplished team of engineers, you will be a crucial member of our New Shepard Crew Capsule Systems Engineering team. Your work will directly contribute to the successful development and deployment of ground breaking aerospace systems for our human-rated New Shepard reusable launch system. Acting as a technical focal, you will work intimately with a diverse team of engineers across multiple disciplines to define, test, analyze, and certify a variety of assemblies and systems supporting safety and mission critical functions. Responsibilities for this role are varied and dynamic, spanning the entire product life cycle from conception to sustainment, with partners across multiple business functions. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration to enable affordable, safe and repeatable spaceflight - an important step towards our vision of millions of people working and living in space.

You will be working on development, manufacturing, and fielding of the New Shepard Crew Capsule systems. Your systems engineering responsibilities include developing and managing product requirements; defining and managing interfaces; supporting production or sourcing of the components, supporting integration and test, developing and implementing verification and qualification strategy; conducting root cause analysis and developing mitigation plans for hardware failures.

Additionally, you will contribute to systems safety analyses and certification. This is an opportunity to gain hands on experience with developing space vehicle hardware and learn how to advance the systems to meet requirements for an ever growing demand for space tourism.

Above all, we are looking for a systems engineer with a passion for our mission, intellectually curiosity, and a strong desire to continuously improve the capability and quality of our products with an uncompromising dedication to safety. Passion for our mission and vision is required!

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Utilization of Systems Engineering, PLM, and collaboration tools such as DOORS, JIRA, Confluence, Windchill, Creo, and SharePoint.
  • Support a broad team by leading the creation of and/or modification of analytical models.
  • Perform complex integrated analysis for the New Shepard Program.
  • Provide engineering support and technical ownership for system verification, validation, integration, test, and operation.
  • Apply technical knowledge with systems engineering principles, theories, and techniques to advance the program
  • Provide direct engineering support to component teams for development and qualification test planning and execution
  • Working directly with lead systems engineers and technical program managers to plan and prioritize work assignments
  • Act as the systems engineering liaison for the project team, advancing issues where necessary
  • Supporting problem report and root cause investigations and dispositions
  • Support design and configuration leads by conducting change impact analyses
  • Support launch operations and mission readiness for the human-rated New Shepard vehicles
  • Support and lead design and operational gated reviews

Minimum Qualifications:
  • B.S. degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Math, or Physics.
  • 5+ years of proven system development and integration experience - preferably within the aerospace industry or working directly with safety critical systems
  • Industry practice in Systems Engineering tools and processes.
  • Insatiable curiosity with a desire to navigate ambiguity and tackle complex challenges
  • Self-directed and capable of balancing several tasks at one time.
  • Proven ability to work effectively and collaborate in a dynamic, fast paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Travel expected up to 10% of the time
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Successful candidates will typically have 5-10 years of aerospace engineering experience.
  • Experience in design, analysis, test, operation, and/or certification of aerospace safety critical systems.
  • Experience supporting a project throughout all phases of the product development lifecycle
  • Experience planning and executing development and/or qualification tests
  • Experience with software tools such as DOORS, MATLAB/Simulink, Confluence, JIRA, Git, Creo, and Windchill
  • Experience in reliability, maintainability and supportability definition and execution
  • System Safety analysis experience including but not limited to FMECAs, FTAs, and FHAs
  • Basic project management skills including labor estimating and schedule management
  • Advanced technical degrees
