Responsibilities

As a Naval Architecture and Structural Engineer you will work within a government - contractor team designing and testing current and next generation naval and commercial platforms

This is a full time onsite position in West Bethesda MD

What you will do:

Responsible for structural design, modification, and analysis of surface naval and commercial platforms, submarines, and undersea vehicles. Analyses include design and assessment of primary and secondary ship structural members and components against primary and operational loads. This includes analysis of both intact and structural components degraded by corrosion, pitting, cracking, deformations, and fabrication defects. These analyses include hull assessments against ultimate strength, progressive collapse, and other secondary loadings. Candidates will also perform buckling calculations to assess the stability of designs. This position also reviews existing calculation packages to ensure that calculations are accurate, modeling assumptions are acceptable, and requirements are met. Also responsible for evaluating the structural capacity of surface ship vehicle and flight decks relative to static, dynamic and thermal loads.

Requires the use of a range of methods including Finite Element Modeling, Finite Element Analysis, and Fracture Mechanics and fatigue crack growth analysis.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

BS in Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering. 10+ years of experience.

Experience in marine structures. Experience with some combination of the following tools: ABAQUS , FEMAP, Hyperworks, NASTRAN, LS DYNA, Sierra Mechanics, Maestro, ULTSTR, Spectra, Procoll, NASGRO, AutoCAD, Inventor, NAVISWORKS, NX, Solidworks, Rhinoceros3D
Requires an Active DoD SECRET Clearance or ability to obtain an Interim Secret Clearance prior to start date.

Target Salary Range

$112,000 - $179,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
