SAP Systems Engineer - Performance Tuning Specialist

Key Responsibilities:

1. Monitor, analyze, and enhance performance across SAP landscapes (ECC, S/4HANA, BW, etc.) including application servers, database tiers, and integration layers.
2. Tune performance across networking components, load balancers, firewall configurations, and hybrid/cloud infrastructure to support enterprise workloads.
3. Optimize SAP system parameters, work processes, memory utilization, I/O performance, and background job scheduling.
4. Diagnose and resolve latency, throughput, and resource bottlenecks across the full infrastructure stack — network, servers, firewalls, load balancers, and databases.
5. Work with SAP Basis, Database Administrators, Cloud Engineers, and Network teams to align tuning efforts across system layers.
6. Utilize SAP monitoring tools (e.g., ST03, ST06, STAD, SAP EarlyWatch) and infrastructure tools (e.g., AppDynamics, Dynatrace, SolarWinds, Wireshark) for performance diagnostics.
7. Support cloud platform optimization (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform) for hosted SAP workloads, including autoscaling, VM sizing, storage IOPS tuning, and network traffic management.
8. Implement performance testing and benchmarking for SAP upgrades, system migrations, and new deployments.
9. Document tuning configurations, benchmark results, issue resolutions, and best practice recommendations.

Required Qualifications:

1. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
2. 5+ years of experience as a System Engineer or Performance Engineer in enterprise environments.
3. Direct experience with performance tuning for SAP environments, including ECC, S/4HANA, or BW.
4. Solid understanding of hybrid infrastructure including on-premise data centers, private/public clouds, and virtualized environments.
5. Deep knowledge of TCP/IP, routing, and load balancer performance (F5, Citrix ADC, etc.).
6. Expertise in tuning server performance (Windows/Linux), firewall rulesets, and database optimization (HANA, SQL Server, Oracle, etc.).
7. Familiarity with APM/NPM tools and SAP Solution Manager (SolMan) performance monitoring capabilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Certifications: SAP Certified Technology Associate, AWS/Azure Solutions Architect, CCNP, or RHCE.
2. Experience with SAP cloud migrations or cloud-native SAP architecture (RISE with SAP, S/4HANA on AWS/Azure).
3. Familiarity with DevOps or Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, Ansible) for tuning in CI/CD workflows.
4. Performance testing experience with tools such as JMeter, LoadRunner, or SAP Load Test Framework.
