Job Summary:

Super Micro Computer, Inc. is currently seeking a highly experience Sr. Software Engineer - Switch Design. The candidate will be responsible for promoting switch products, program manage and work with development and testing teams to features.

This position requires working knowledge on networking and switch products, analytical thinking, business acumen, leadership, program management teamwork, attention to details, and creativity

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Includes the following essential duties and responsibilities (other duties may also be assigned):
  • Adopting existing firmware code and work on new or different switch hardware platforms.
  • Developing and implementing low-level software that directly interacts with switch hardware platforms.
  • Debugging and optimizing ported F/W to ensure proper functionality/performance/stability on the platforms.
  • Creating and maintaining documentation for ported F/W and related process.
  • Collaborating with hardware engineers and other software teams to ensure seamless integration of ported F/W.
  • Performing code reviews and adhering to F/W development best practices.
  • Troubleshooting F/W issue cross different switch hardware configuration.
  • Monitor progress across the group's responsibility for the feature area
  • Work across different HW, FW and SW departments/groups to identify and resolve technical issues
  • Perform other tasks as needed within the business
  • Drive the definition, planning and feature prioritization for switch products
  • Support and grow relations with Enterprise and Datacenter customers using technical presentations
  • Co-work with peer SW & HW Product Management teams, designers and other development team to define our product strategy around remote management
  • Establish and manage a schedule to activities, milestones and deliverable for our products
  • Work with Sales and marketing to develop and maintain a customer / partner product promotion program
  • Evangelize and work with 3rd party partners / customers in developing switch products acting as the primary point of contact
  • Perform other tasks as needed within the business

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related discipline is preferred; Master's degree is a plus
  • 10+ years of strong network engineering experience with a focus on testing and validation.
  • In depth understanding of networking protocols and technologies (BGP, OSPF, ISIS, EIGRP, MPLS etc.)
  • Programming experience with C/C++ and Python / other scripting languages.
  • Experience with Keysight, IXIA, Spirent, and other traffic generators to characterize the scale and performance.
  • Strong skills in packet decoding, reading pcap files, and analyzing sniffer traces.
  • Experience working with open network operating systems, like SONiC, ONL etc. is preferred
  • Hands on experience with Linux networking (iptables, tc, ovs etc.) and open routing stacks, s.a. FRR (previously Quagga, Zebra)
  • Strong competence and expert-level hands-on knowledge of routing protocols, s.a. BGP, OSPF, ISIS, RIP, ...
  • Working knowledge of Layer 2 technologies like VLAN, STP, QinQ, TRILL, LLDP, LAG, MCLAG, LACP, ESI, Multicast
  • Hands-on experience with OpenFlow, OpenConfig
  • Experience working with data plane features with Switching ASIC's like Broadcom XGS/DNX, Marvell etc.

Salary Range

$140,000 - $182,000

The salary offered will depend on several factors, including your location, level, education, training, specific skills, years of experience, and comparison to other employees already in this role. In addition to a comprehensive benefits package, candidates may be eligible for other forms of compensation, such as participation in bonus and equity award programs.
