Title: Mainframe System Programmer
Schedule/Shift: Part-time, Onsite, New York, NY
Cedar Park Group is hiring a Mainframe System Programmer to support critical upgrades and ongoing maintenance of core mainframe components, with a focus on DB2 and CICS. This role requires deep technical expertise in IBM systems to ensure reliability, stability, and performance of large-scale citywide applications.
Position Overview:
The Mainframe System Programmer will provide technical leadership for installations, upgrades, and maintenance of mainframe environments. The role includes performance monitoring, lifecycle management of assets, ensuring compliance with licensing, and acting as a trusted advisor for mainframe-related initiatives. The consultant will also transfer knowledge to internal staff to strengthen in-house expertise.
Responsibilities:
Oversee installation, maintenance, and upgrades of mainframe subsystems.
Monitor system performance, capacity, and utilization, proactively addressing issues.
Lead planning and execution of mainframe upgrade projects.
Maintain inventory of software licenses, versions, and configurations.
Track end-of-life, end-of-support, and renewal timelines.
Ensure compliance with vendor licensing and audits.
Maintain accurate and version-controlled system documentation.
Provide training and mentorship to strengthen internal team knowledge.
Act as a technical advisor for mainframe initiatives.
Qualifications (Required):
Minimum 10 years of experience with z/OS, JES2, SMP/E, TSO, IOCP/HCD, IBM utilities (IDCAMS, IEFBR14, etc.), program product installations, IBM virtual tape system, and Unix System Services.
Hands-on experience with DB2, CICS, IMS.
Experience with monitoring tools such as OMEGAMON.
Experience working with enterprise-wide, large-scale implementations.
Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Experience with mainframe CPU installs as a Systems Programmer Consultant.
Bachelor s degree or 10+ years of relevant technical experience.
