Are you described as someone with an inquisitive mind and an innovative personality? Are you fascinated by the power of AI and how it can help make lives better? Do you like collaborating with people to accomplish big projects? If so, the Staff Engineer - AI position could be your calling.

At Frost, it's about more than a job. It's about having a flourishing career where you can thrive, both in and out of work. At Frost, we're committed to fostering an environment that reflects our values and encourages team members to be the best they can be. In joining our adaptable, integrity-driven team, you'll become part of Frost's over 150-year legacy of providing unparalleled banking services.

Who you are:

As a Staff Engineer - AI , you are our subject matter expert, leading technical efforts on AI reliability, bias mitigation, and drift detection. You thrive on designing thoughtful, intelligent workflows and are excited by the future of AI. You believe in effective communication and innovation. Our Staff Engineers have a passion for people as they provide leadership and guidance to software developers and AI engineers across programs and systems. You welcome a challenge and strive to contentiously optimize system and program functionality with integrity, caring and excellence in mind.

What you'll do:
  • Architect intelligent systems and workflows that involve agentic behavior and LLM decision-making
  • Drive design sessions for agent loop architectures, tool orchestration, and task planning
  • Lead technical efforts on AI reliability, bias mitigation, and drift detection
  • Collaborate with product and design leaders to define outcomes and performance metrics
  • Act as a system designer and workflow architect, not just a code implementer
  • Evaluate agent behavior using AI principles (fairness, reliability, explainability, safety)
  • Optimize performance of agentic systems with caching, throttling, and fallback strategies
  • Mentor engineers in best practices for LLM prompting, agent decomposition, and tool design
  • Oversee the entire AI & advanced analytics lifecycle: architecture, design, development, deployment, and optimization of AI-powered systems
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to software developers and AI engineers across programs and systems
  • Shape and execute the AI platform roadmap, focusing on modules like inference engines, document intelligence, and conversational agents
  • Partner with Product, Data Science, Security, and Compliance to translate business needs into scalable, secure technical solutions
  • Drive hands-on implementation of microservices, APIs, and real-time AI features-reviewing code and fostering best practices
  • Monitor system health and performance; optimize production systems for reliability, latency, and security
  • Research and pilot new AI technologies, frameworks, and methods to continuously improve capabilities
  • Always take action using Integrity, Caring, and Excellence to achieve all-win outcomes

What you'll need:
  • Bachelor's in Computer Science, Data Science, or related field
  • 6+ years of experience with enterprise-grade AI/ML systems
  • Deep understanding of event-driven design, API orchestration, prompt engineering, tool orchestration, planner/verifier roles, and system modularity
  • Strong skills in prompt engineering, memory and context handling, and agent loop optimization
  • Extensive experience with AI/ML tools: PyTorch, TensorFlow, MLflow, Hugging Face Transformers, FastAPI, LangChain, vector databases, and agent loop architectures
  • Deep familiarity with microservices, container technologies (Docker/Kubernetes), and API architectures
  • Ability to integrate LLMs and ML models into critical systems securely and at scale
  • Strong hands-on skills in Python (ML frameworks) and Java/TypeScript (microservices)
  • Experience leading teams in applying LLMs and autonomous agents to real-world problems

Our Benefits:

At Frost, we care about your health, your family, and your future and strive to have our benefits reflect that. This includes:
  • Medical, dental, vision, long-term disability, and life insurance
  • 401(k) matching
