Position Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced Data Architect (ETL Architect) to serve as the technical lead and primary point of communication for a mission-critical data initiative supporting the Correction Information Management System (CIMS) Data Warehouse/Data Lake on Microsoft Azure.
This role is responsible for architecting, developing, and optimizing enterprise-scale ETL/data integration pipelines, enabling secure, reliable, and high-performance access to critical data. The ideal candidate is a hands-on Azure data expert who can translate complex data into actionable insights while ensuring data integrity, governance, and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
ETL Pipeline Design & Development
Lead the design and development of high-performing ETL pipelines integrating data from multiple, disparate sources
Build efficient, reliable, and secure pipelines that meet business and operational needs
Use Azure Data Factory (ADF) to automate, orchestrate, and streamline data workflows
Data Integration & Transformation
Design and manage complex ETL workflows that extract, transform, and load data for analytics and reporting
Ensure data accuracy, timeliness, and security across all pipelines
Own data quality, validation, and resiliency, ensuring only trusted data reaches downstream systems
Azure Cloud Platform Expertise
Leverage ADF, Azure Databricks, Azure Synapse Analytics, Power BI, and Azure Purview
Process large volumes of structured and unstructured data using scalable, performance-optimized architectures
Integrate enterprise datasets into Azure Synapse Analytics to enable advanced analytics and reporting
Performance Optimization
Continuously tune and optimize ETL jobs to minimize latency and maximize throughput
Design architectures that support fast, reliable data access while meeting strict performance SLAs
Security, Governance & Compliance
Embed security and compliance best practices throughout the ETL lifecycle
Protect sensitive data using Azure security controls, RBAC, and governance standards
Use Azure Purview to manage data governance, lineage, cataloging, and compliance requirements
Collaboration & Technical Leadership
Partner with data engineers, analysts, business stakeholders, and security teams
Serve as a technical leader and mentor, providing guidance on ETL, data engineering, and best practices
Act as the primary technical liaison between project teams and stakeholders
Documentation & Best Practices
Develop and maintain detailed technical documentation for ETL processes and architectures
Establish and enforce best practices for data handling, ETL development, performance, and security
Promote a culture of quality, accountability, and continuous improvement
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field,
or equivalent work experience (year-for-year) including SOA and Microsoft Azure Cloud Solutions7+ years of experience in ETL development and data engineering
3+ years of hands-on experience with:
Azure Data Factory (ADF)
Azure Databricks
Azure Synapse Analytics
Azure Purview
Proven experience designing and optimizing large-scale, high-availability ETL pipelines
Strong expertise in Spark, Python, and/or Scala
Advanced SQL skills and experience with complex data models
In-depth knowledge of data governance, security, and RBAC in Azure
Ability to design secure, resilient, and compliant ETL architectures
Preferred Qualifications
Microsoft Azure certifications, such as:
Azure Data Engineer Associate
Azure Solutions Architect Expert
Azure Fundamentals
Azure Databricks Data Engineer Associate Certification
