Your impact
At Jacobs, we work on the engineering, procurement, and implementation of a broad range of applied systems and technologies with a focus on communications infrastructure, telecommunications, security, and Railroad Passenger Information Systems. We also focus on Radio (RF), Land Mobile Radio (LMR), and fiber optic telecommunication networks and systems. Our projects span various areas to include Mass Transit Agency systems, networks, technologies, and fiber/copper infrastructure, Water Industry, Building & Infrastructure, Briges, Highways ITS, and much more.
By joining us as a Communications Systems Designer/Engineer, you will provide design and engineering execution of small/medium/large projects, represent Jacobs to our clients, and work with internal and external staff.
You will receive guidance from our Regional Manager of Systems & Technology and coordinate with the communications, electrical, and other subject matter experts located in diverse offices to complete the project's requirements. We will ask you to be responsible for the design and implementation of technology-based systems on a design-bid-build, design build, or turnkey basis.
Help us with the day-to-day execution of project plans and designs. You will also assist with the monitoring and reporting of project progress, and development of project deliverables.
Here's what you'll need
BS or MS in communications or electrical engineering.
A minimum of 15 years of post-graduate years of experience with demonstrated progression of responsibility, including design, engineering, and implementation experience.
Experience collaborating with teams comprised of multiple technical disciplines to execute technical work plans while maintaining project budgets and schedules.
Experience Mass Transit Agencies in and around New York and/or the Northeast.
Background in systems testing and commissioning.
Knowledge of and practical working experience in the design and implementation of communications systems technologies and their applications.
Knowledge of Mass Transit Agencies Networks, Passenger Information Systems, Security systems to include Intrusion Detection, Access Control, CCTV Surveillance and video management and distribution systems.
Knowledge of and practical working experience with Microsoft Office productivity suite including Word, Excel, Visio, Project, and PowerPoint.
Knowledge of and practical working experience with Bentley 2 and 3D, MicroStation Suites.
Other Requirements:
Candidate must have a valid driver's license, have a vehicle available and have the ability to travel within the Northeast or as required.
Candidate must be willing to travel on occasion and as required by the projects and adhere to Jacobs Policies and procedures.
May occasionally be required to work outdoors in various geographic regions and in wide variety of weather conditions and facilities.
May be required to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. of equipment.
May be required to traverse underground tunnel and railroad right of way environments.
Candidate must recognize the need and be willing to work non-business hours as required. This may involve nights and weekends.
Ideally you'll also have:
EIT or P.E.
BICSI RCDD/OSP
Network design experience supporting:
o Cisco Certifications
o Data Analytics
iBwave Modeling Certification - Level 1-3
Structured cabling infrastructure, grounding, telecommunications equipment room, and Data Center designs.
Knowledge of and practical working experience with applicable codes, standards, and regulations to include IEEE, FCC, ADA, NEC, NFPA, and others as it pertains to communications systems designs.
Primavera or other scheduling software, ProjectWise, SharePoint, or other web-based data sharing programs/applications
