Overview
Our client is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to perform complex analysis, design, development, automated unit and integration testing, and debugging of computer software. This role involves leading a team of software engineers, defining system scope and objectives, managing modifications to operational programs, and acting as a mentor to junior engineers.

Responsibilities
Lead a team of software engineers in the design, development, and implementation of multiple applications.
Perform and lead technical design, coding, code review, and testing of new and existing applications.
Serve as a subject matter expert for specified systems and their applications.
Develop and/or analyze interface design documentation.
Comply with hardware and software systems standards and procedures.
Deliver large systems for tens of thousands of users.
Ensure compliance with dev/sec/ops practices and policies.
Identify gaps in requirements and solve problems for supporting staff.
Identify sequencing of services and technologies for project integration.
Lead the evaluation of risk and opportunity impacts and implement mitigation actions.
Develop ways to improve performance and increase system availability.
Provide recommendations to infuse new technology.
Compile, assess, and report data results from software testing and analysis.
Support the Project Manager as the technical team lead on projects.
Estimate technical costs of projects for clients and project managers.
Confer with clients to identify requirements and determine desired outcomes for system design.
Assist in the estimation of development of application features.
Lead software design and development teams.
Identify, analyze, define, and coordinate user, customer, and stakeholder needs and translate them into technical requirements.
Manage technical resources (hardware, software, licenses, and services).
Plan and lead transformation initiatives to new software architectures.
Extend open-source libraries and systems as necessary to meet team needs.
Play a crucial role in product scoping and roadmap/architecture discussions.
Continually evaluate emerging technologies to identify opportunities, trends, and best practices.
Ensure code quality, deployment standards, and practices.
Mentor junior developers.

Required Skills & Experience
Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology or Computer Science.
8 years of experience in software design and development, software test and evaluation, and software requirements management.
In lieu of a Bachelor's degree, an additional 4 years of relevant work experience is required in addition to the 8 years of required experience.
Strong experience with JAVA, microservices, Spring framework, Springboots, Spring integration, and MQ.
Experience with AWS technologies including EKS, Lambda, S3, EventBridge, Step Functions, and SQS.
Proficiency with Mongo DB.
Demonstrated experience with front-end and back-end programming and integration frameworks and tools.
Expert knowledge of working closely with Architects, Product Owners, Scrum Masters, and Value Stream Managers to provide insight into delivering business value and meeting objectives.
Expert ability to decompose functional and technical requirements into project activities and tasks, and provide conceptual design, prototype, and test cycles appropriate to a chosen technical solution.
Expert in identifying technical risks and developing mitigation strategies; introducing and recommending industry best practices and standards for the project.
Expert in evaluating and assisting in the selection and procurement of hardware and software technologies.
Expert in working with stakeholders as well as technical and analytical counterparts to define constraints and develop requirements and concept of operations documentation.
Advanced knowledge of cloud technologies (e.g., AWS, Azure).
Advanced knowledge of database technologies (e.g., cloud, SQL, Oracle, Mongo DB, PostgreSQL, etc.).
Advanced fundamental knowledge of software engineering best practices, agile methodologies, and CI/CD pipelines.
Advanced knowledge of test-first practices including Test-Driven Development (TDD) for unit tests and Behavior-Driven Development (BDD) for automated acceptance tests.
Advanced experience with Deployment/Continuous Integration/Continuous Testing/Continuous Delivery processes and tools and expertise in CI/CD tools and framework.
Advanced experience with deploying a global application and configuration management.
Expert in reviewing the work of other developers and providing feedback.
Expert ability to communicate technical requirements to all levels of expertise.
Advanced proficiency in establishing and maintaining good working relationships.
Expert knowledge and understanding of software development life cycle (SDLC).
Expert proficiency with integrating complex and/or existing systems.
Expert knowledge of programming languages (e.g., JavaScript, C, Python, etc.).
Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.

Preferred Skills & Experience
Prior experience leading software design and development teams.
Experience with product scoping and roadmap/architecture discussions.
Familiarity with continually evaluating emerging technologies.
Experience with IBM MQ or similar messaging queue technologies.
Hands-on experience with MongoDB.
AWS Certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, AWS Certified Developer).
While the focus is backend, broader full-stack development experience is considered a plus.
