Position: IBM API Gateway Automation / Confluent Kafka Engineer
Location: Remote in the U.S.
Rate: $70.00 - $80.00 per hour
Duration: 12+ Months; Strong potential for extension
Overview:
Our client in the Banking industry is seeking an Integration Engineer with strong expertise in IBM API Gateway automation (IBM API Connect, DataPower) and enterprise-grade streaming with Confluent Kafka. This role will focus on automating API deployments, streamlining event-driven integrations, and enabling secure, scalable messaging pipelines.
Responsibilities:
IBM API Gateway Automation:
Automate API deployment and lifecycle using IBM API Connect CLI, scripts, or DevOps pipelines.
Manage and configure DataPower gateways using automated templates (e.g., YAML, Ansible).
Implement and enforce API security, quotas, and monitoring with automation-first mindset.
Confluent Kafka Streaming:
Design and build real-time data pipelines using Confluent Kafka.
Use Confluent tools (Kafka Connect, Schema Registry, ksqlDB) to enable automated data flows.
Create CI/CD-enabled Kafka applications and manage connectors for databases, cloud, and APIs.
Operational Duties:
Deploy Kafka and API Gateway services in containerized/Kubernetes environments.
Enable automated observability and alerting using Confluent Control Center, Prometheus, etc.
Deliver scripts, runbooks, and reusable frameworks for integration and streaming automation.
Required Qualifications:
5+ years in integration or platform engineering roles.
2+ years automating IBM API Connect and/or DataPower Gateway deployments.
Strong experience with Confluent Kafka, including connectors, schemas, and streaming tools.
Programming/scripting in Python, Java, or Node.js for integration workflows.
Experience with Ansible, Helm, or Terraform for infrastructure as code.
Familiarity with Kubernetes, Docker, and secure cloud API gateways.
Desired Experience:
Confluent Cloud and hybrid Kafka platform experience.
IBM MQ, IIB, or Event Streams knowledge.
Prior experience in finance, banking, or regulated environments.
Deliverables:
Automated IBM API Gateway deployment templates and policies
Kafka data pipelines, connectors, and ksqlDB streams
CI/CD integration for APIs and messaging infrastructure
Monitoring dashboards and operational runbooks
