Role: Senior Mainframe Developer Location: Chicago IL Duration: 6 Months+ Rate: $50/hr

We are seeking an experienced Senior Mainframe Developer with deep expertise in COBOL, DB2, and VSAM to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of delivering high-quality mainframe solutions, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to work on complex, large-scale applications in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, test, and maintain mainframe-based applications using COBOL, DB2, and VSAM.
Analyze business requirements and translate them into efficient technical solutions.
Optimize and tune DB2 queries and access paths for better performance.
Perform batch and online processing, ensuring reliability and scalability.
Collaborate with business analysts, QA teams, and other developers to ensure timely delivery of projects.
Provide production support, troubleshoot issues, and perform root cause analysis.
Maintain documentation of system processes, program logic, and code changes.
Participate in code reviews, enforce coding standards, and ensure quality best practices.
Support migration, modernization, and integration initiatives for mainframe systems.
Required Skills & Qualifications 10+ years of hands-on experience in mainframe application development.
Strong proficiency in COBOL, DB2, and VSAM.
Solid understanding of JCL, CICS, and IMS (preferred but not mandatory).
Strong experience with batch processing and transaction processing systems.
Proficiency in DB2 database design, SQL queries, and performance tuning.
Experience with mainframe utilities (e.g., IDCAMS, SORT, File-Aid, Expeditor).
Knowledge of software development life cycle (SDLC) and Agile methodologies.
Strong debugging, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
