Role: Senior Security Engineer
Location: Oakland, CA (Hybrid 2 days onsite)
Duration: 6 months + extensions >> ongoing

Overview: We are seeking an experienced Senior Security Engineer to join on a contract basis. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in firewall architecture, privileged access management, Zero Trust security, VPN solutions, and cloud access security. This role involves evaluating and improving current security infrastructure, implementing best practices, and supporting incident response and compliance initiatives.
Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate and improve Fortinet firewall architecture and validate integration into enterprise IT systems.
  • Participate in incident response, investigations, and root cause analysis.
  • Implement Privileged Access Management (PAM) controls and enforces security policies for privileged accounts.
  • Lead the design and implementation of Zero Trust Architecture including access controls and micro-segmentation.
  • Evaluate, implement, and maintain VPN solutions for secure remote access.
  • Monitor VPN logs and responds to potential security incidents.
  • Implement and manage Cloud Access Security Broker (CASB) solutions to secure cloud services.
  • Defines and enforce cloud security policies, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
  • Provide recommendations to strengthen the overall cybersecurity posture.

Must-Have Skills:

  • 7+ years of experience in cybersecurity or network security engineering.
  • Hands-on expertise with Fortinet firewalls (architecture, deployment, and tuning).
  • Strong knowledge of PAM solutions, Zero Trust security principles, and VPN technologies.
  • Experience with CASB solutions and cloud security (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform).
  • Proven track record in incident response, threat analysis, and preventative measures.
  • Familiarity with compliance frameworks (NIST, CIS Controls, ISO 27001).
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder collaboration skills.


Preferred Certifications:

  • Fortinet NSE 4/5/6 (or higher)
  • CISSP, CISM, or CCSP
