We are seeking a skilled Principal Software Development Engineer who can be the Product Owner for a scrum team of five to seven people with a focus on a Fire Unit Software product.
This position is onsite in Tewksbury, Massachusetts as part of the Patriot Software Development Team.
What You Will Do:
As Product Owner, the candidate will work with the Fire Unit Sub-IPT Lead to ensure that the backlog is well-managed, user stories are clear, and priorities are set effectively. In addition to managing the team backlog, the ideal candidate will have the ability to become a subject matter expert and software lead on the team. As a subject matter expert, the candidate will be involved in all stages of the software development lifecycle.

The salary range for this role is 101,000 USD - 203,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

- Update, refine and prioritize the team's backlog to ensure that the team is always focused on the most critical features that deliver value
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and implement new features, ensuring system integration and scalability.
- Collaborate with the Fire Unit Sub-IPT lead (the FU Product Owner) and communicate issues that the development team faces that impede progress
- Work effectively within a team and function as an individual contributor as needed, working autonomously with limited supervision
- This position requires exclusive onsite presence.
Qualifications You Must Have:
- Typically requires a Bachelor's in science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience.
- Experience in embedded systems, real-time systems, or large-scale applications.
- Experience with multithreading, memory management, or performance optimization in complex environments.
- Experience in a Unix/Linux operating system.
- Experience in product owner related activities like managing the expectations and inputs of various stakeholders while keeping the product vision intact, or similar.
- Active and transferable U.S. government issued Secret security clearance is required prior to start date.
Qualifications We Prefer:
- Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and software design principles, particularly in high-concurrency and distributed systems.
- Experience with Network Communication Protocols, Shell Scripting (tcsh, csh, bash), software development tools like Git/Clearcase, software debuggers, and using embedded RTOSs (e.g. VxWorks, Integrity).
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git).
- Familiarity with software development methodologies (Agile, Scrum, etc.).
