Power BI Administrator - Data Platform Operations

Overview:
A dynamic enterprise is seeking an experienced Power BI Administrator to support and enhance its data platform operations. This individual will be a key contributor to ensuring platform stability, security, and scalability within a large and complex reporting environment. The position calls for a hands-on professional who can proactively manage capacity, monitor performance, and implement cost-effective solutions through automation and governance.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives on optimizing systems, automating administrative processes, and maintaining a clean, compliant reporting environment. The right candidate will bring a critical eye to inefficiencies and the skills to resolve them through thoughtful scripting and system design.

Key Responsibilities:

Power BI Tenant Administration:

• Oversee Power BI capacity and resource utilization, addressing performance and scaling needs.
• Apply and enforce governance standards around datasets, workspaces, and data access.
• Analyze system logs and capacity data to uncover performance trends and opportunities.
• Develop monitoring dashboards and tools using SQL, REST APIs, and automation scripts.
• Create and execute automation for repetitive administrative tasks and bulk operations.
• Advise on and respond to capacity bottlenecks with actionable recommendations.
• Support CI/CD pipelines for Power BI deployments, primarily in Azure DevOps.

User Access & Support:

• Manage user roles, access rights, and workspace assignments in line with internal security policies.
• Provide Tier 2 support, resolving user issues related to refresh failures, access, and usage.
• Work with internal teams to ensure appropriate onboarding and offboarding procedures.

Operational Optimization:

• Monitor service health and alerts to quickly respond to outages or degradation.
• Collaborate with teams to optimize reports and datasets using modeling best practices and incremental refresh.
• Maintain accurate records for licenses, user permissions, and workspace assignments.

Governance & Enablement:

• Document and update policies for workspace lifecycle management, user access, and reporting standards.
• Build and maintain a central knowledge base and FAQs to support self-service BI users.
• Partner with data engineers and analysts to align documentation and workflows to governance models.
• Host training sessions to improve adoption and promote best practices for scalable BI development.
• Regularly update training materials to reflect platform changes and user feedback.

Qualifications:

• 3-5 years of hands-on experience administering Power BI in an enterprise setting.
• Strong scripting skills (PowerShell or similar) for automation of administrative tasks.
• Proficient in SQL and familiar with REST APIs related to Power BI and Microsoft services.
• Solid understanding of BI governance and capacity management principles.
• Experience supporting deployment pipelines (Azure DevOps preferred).
• Background in data modeling, ETL processes, and integration practices.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Azure and cloud-based data platforms.
• Effective communicator with strong organizational and troubleshooting skills.
• Power BI and/or Azure certifications are preferred.

Additional Information:
This is a specialized administration role focused solely on Power BI platform operations. The position requires a deep technical foundation and a proactive mindset. It is not intended for generalists or report developers without direct administrative experience.
