Description
Job Description: We are seeking an experienced PostgreSQL Database Administrator (DBA) to lead a database migration project from Oracle to PostgreSQL in an AWS Cloud environment. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of both Oracle and PostgreSQL databases, experience with AWS Cloud services, and a proven track record of successfully managing and executing database migration projects. This role requires strong analytical skills, exceptional problem-solving abilities, and a proactive approach to managing complex database environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the planning, design, and implementation of database migration projects from Oracle to PostgreSQL on AWS Cloud.
- Perform detailed assessments of existing Oracle databases, identifying potential migration challenges and developing comprehensive migration strategies.
- Design and implement archival strategies to eliminate database partitioning.
- Execute database migration tasks including data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) processes utilizing AWS Services, as needed.
- Maintain, optimize and tune PostgreSQL databases for performance, scalability, and reliability post-migration.
- Develop, configure, and maintain automated processes for database management, monitoring, backup, and recovery.
- Maintain documentation for database configurations, migration procedures, and maintenance processes.
- Monitor database performance and proactively identify and resolve issues related to database performance, capacity, and security.
- Conduct and support regular maintenance tasks, including updates, patching, and performance tuning.
- Collaborate with development and operations teams to ensure adherence to client guideline, standards, and AWS Cloud best practices.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum of 9 years of experience as a Database Administrator with a focus on Oracle and PostgreSQL databases.
- Proven experience with database migration projects from Oracle to PostgreSQL, particularly on AWS Cloud.
- Strong understanding of AWS services and cloud architecture, including RDS, EC2, S3, and CloudFormation, and AWS Database Migration Service (DMS).
- Expertise in database performance tuning, optimization, and troubleshooting.
- Proficiency in SQL, PL/pgSQL, and database scripting languages.
- Experience with database backup and recovery processes.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
- Experience with data governance, security, and compliance requirements and best practices.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Certifications in AWS and/or PostgreSQL are highly desirable.
CLEARANCE REQUIREMENT:
- Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance based on USPTO regulations
- Candidates must have lived in the United States for the last 2 years
