  • 3+ Yrs of Exp Database development experience focusing on stored procedures 5+ Yrs of Exp

Job description-

  • Sybase to SQL Server Migration Position Overview We are seeking an experienced T-SQL Database Developer to lead the conversion of Sybase stored procedures to Microsoft SQL Server 2022. This specialized role focuses on retrofitting complex stored procedures as part of our database platform modernization initiative for criminal justice applications.
  • The ideal candidate will have expert-level T-SQL skills with particular strength in stored procedure optimization and conversion.
  • Project Context- Project: Database migration from Sybase 16.0 to Microsoft SQL Server 2022 (Phase 1) Primary Focus: Conversion and optimization of hundreds of complex stored procedures Application Scope: 6 criminal justice database systems.
  • Environment: Government sector criminal justice information systems.

Key Responsibilities-

  • Stored Procedure Conversion
  • Convert complex Sybase stored procedures to optimized T-SQL for SQL Server 2022.
  • Rewrite Sybase-specific SQL syntax to SQL Server compatible code.
  • Refactor dynamic SQL constructs to ensure compatibility and security.
  • Implement SQL Server-specific performance enhancements in converted procedures.
  • Document all changes and create mapping between original and converted procedures.
  • Create unit tests for stored procedures to validate correct functionality Database Migration Support.
  • Support overall database schema conversion efforts.
  • Assist with data type mapping and compatibility issues.
  • Help implement error handling approaches compatible with SQL Server.
  • Collaborate on conversion of database triggers and functions.
  • Provide T-SQL expertise during data validation phases Performance Optimization.
  • Analyze execution plans for converted stored procedures.
  • Implement appropriate indexing strategies to support procedure performance.
  • Tune queries within stored procedures for optimal execution.
  • Benchmark procedure performance before and after conversion.
  • Identify and resolve bottlenecks in database procedure calls.

Required Qualifications Technical Skills-

  • Advanced T-SQL: Extensive experience writing and optimizing complex stored procedures (5+ years).
  • Sybase to SQL Server: Demonstrated experience converting Sybase stored procedures to SQL Server.
  • Performance Tuning: Expert-level skills in stored procedure optimization and execution plan analysis.
  • SQL Dialects: Strong understanding of differences between Sybase and SQL Server T-SQL dialects
  • Error Handling: Experience with error handling approaches in both platforms Preferred Experience.
  • Dynamic SQL: Experience refactoring dynamic SQL for security and performance.
  • VB/.NET Forms: Knowledge of VB/.NET Windows Forms to support independent testing and validation.
  • Government Projects: Previous work with government or criminal justice databases.
  • Query Store: Familiarity with SQL Server Query Store for performance monitoring.
  • Database Testing: Experience with database unit testing frameworks Education & Experience.
  • Bachelor s degree in computer science, Information Systems, or related field.
  • 5+ years of database development experience focusing on stored procedures.
  • 3+ years of Microsoft SQL Server T-SQL development with procedure optimization.
  • Experience with both Sybase and SQL Server environments Project-Specific Knowledge.
  • Sybase to SQL Server stored procedure conversion patterns.
  • Transaction management differences between platforms.
  • System stored procedure equivalents between platforms.
