Job Details
Software Guidance & Assistance, Inc., (SGA), is searching for an Payroll Specialist for a 6 month contract assignment with one of our premier Utility clients in San Jose, CA .
Contract extension thru End of Year is probable
We are looking for additional support & an independent worker to do day-to-day Payroll Processing (CA & TX payrolls).
Responsibilities :
Manage bi-weekly and monthly multi-state payrolls for salaried and hourly employees using ADP Workforce Now, including record maintenance, payroll audits, timecard corrections, and termination calculations.
Oversee electronic timekeeping, report generation, involuntary deductions, accounting entries, and procedure updates.
Prepare journal entries and assist with month-end closing, ensuring accurate financial reporting and reconciliations.
Review and reconcile quarterly and annual payroll taxes, including W-2 processing.
Resolve payroll issues and inquiries promptly and professionally.
Provide records for auditors, management, or regulators as needed.
Required Skills
Proficient in payroll preparation and processing, along with related tasks.
Familiar with federal, state, and local wage and labor laws and reporting obligations.
Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance for internal controls.
Knowledgeable in accounting information systems with the ability to manage complex financial data.
Skilled in reviewing, analyzing, and reconciling journals and legal documents while ensuring compliance with financial reporting and accounting standards.

Required Education and Experience
- 3+ years of experience in processing payroll and journal entries.
- Certified Payroll Professional preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
- Diversified experience with financial accounting systems, particularly ADP Workforce Now, JD Edwards Enterprise One, Power Plant, Insight, and FloQast is desirable.
- Experience managing payroll in a union environment highly desired.
- ADP experience is a bonus, but not required.
