The Azure Platform Security and Confidentiality team is responsible for Firmware development of server, silicon and rack infrastructure design with a focus on innovation in security technology to secure Azure infrastructure for Microsoft and their customers.

We are looking for a Senior Firmware Development Engineer with a background in security. You must have proficient C or RUST programing skills, with experience writing low level drivers, and root causing issues at the intersection of multiple subsystems across firmware and hardware.

Responsibilities:

  • You will be involved in all stages of pre-silicon firmware development to landing production quality (test driven development) code in Azure, supporting this through it's entire life cycle.
  • At the design phase, you will be part of a team- driving the architecture, design and development of the security sub-systems including firmware development of low-level hardware interfaces.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field AND 5+ years technical engineering experience
    • OR Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience
    • OR Doctorate in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field AND 1+ year(s) technical engineering experience
    • OR equivalent experience
  • Proficient in C/C++, or RUST programming
  • Experience debugging and resolving issues spanning multiple subsystems.
  • Experience with one or more of the following: Platform initialization, low level device drivers for peripherals/protocols such as PCIe, NVMe, I2C, eMMC, SPI, USB, UARTs as well as Memory Management, Scheduling, Interrupts or multi-threading
Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding
  • The successful candidate should have experience with some or all the following: driver development, Linux driver initialization, peripherals such as PCIe, memory interfaces. OS primitives, memory management, scheduling, interrupts, threading.
  • Experience with Penetration testing also a plus
  • Knowledge in Encryption ciphers and security protocols
  • Experienced with security and Embedded Software/Firmware development.
  • The candidate should have strong defensive coding skills, debugging and troubleshooting abilities.
Firmware Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $106,400 - $203,600 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $137,600 - $222,600 per year.
