The Network Engineer is responsible for designing, building, and operating Costco's global wired and wireless networks. They provide local and remote network access, routing, switching, DNS, firewall, global WAN, cloud transit, and load balancing services to Costco locations including the Data Centers, Warehouses, CampRegional Offices, Manufacturing and Distribution Facilities.

The Wireless Network Engineer plays a critical role in the operations, maintenance, and administration of indoor wireless networks at a national level. The Engineer will lead the analysis, design, vendor evaluation, implementation, and optimization of wireless networks in new construction and retrofit upgrades of existing offices, Warehouses, and Distribution Centers. The ideal candidate will have expertise in cellular systems strategy, 911 mandates, and testing with wireless operators and public safety answering points (PSAP), large-scale wireless system launches, and administration of large-scale cellular systems. Engagement with internal/external clients, understanding business requirements, and creating solutions through wireless technology is essential. They should also possess extensive knowledge of Distributed Antenna System (DAS) design and implementation, as well as small cell and private networks.

ROLE

Evaluates wireless connectivity requirements in warehouses and distribution centers for mobile and IoT. Outlines the best technology that meets the financial, operational, and technical requirements of the business.

Identifies and qualifies companies to provide professional services for engineering, installation, and maintenance based on past projects, customer references, and financial health.

Collaborates with major Mobile Network Operators on the connection and performance of indoor wireless networks. Coordinates annual 911 testing per FCC required reporting with local PSAP.

Coordinates with local Managers on new installation or maintenance of existing wireless systems on internal Change Management platforms.

Creates a national maintenance program to maintain performance and life cycle of wireless systems in Warehouses and Distribution Centers. Develops vendor scorecards on service level agreements and performance.

Conducts thorough analysis of existing and planned wireless telecommunications networks to identify areas for improvement.

Designs cellular and digital mobile phone networks, ensuring optimal performance and coverage for voice and data.

Oversees the implementation of network solutions, including equipment installation and configuration.

Optimizes network performance through analysis and adjustments based on data and performance metrics.

Manages the approval process for all properties, ensuring compliance with regulations and standards.

Performs link budget calculations to ensure reliable and efficient network coverage.

Dimensions systems for coverage and capacity, including traffic analysis and initial system design.

Coordinates RF drive data collection to improve coverage and outline before/after results, ensuring data is used to enhance network design and performance.

Plans RF indoor coverage to maximize network efficiency and minimize interference.

Analyzes and mitigates interference issues to maintain network integrity and performance.

Devises test plans, schedule test sites, calibrate equipment, and analyze RF signal measurement data.

Researches and identifies the latest techniques in Wireless Network Engineering and the cellular industry to improve coverage, quality, and capacity.

Provides training on wireless technologies and applications to team members.

Develops specialized hardware and software tools for Wireless Network Engineering purposes.

Oversees RF planning projects, ensuring timely and effective execution.

Supports cross-functional teams with technical expertise on RF-related matters.

Identifies development needs and provides mentoring to Associate and Wireless Engineers.

Identifies base station sites for system coverage and performs site surveys to verify suitability.

Implements high-performance operational wireless networks, including initial design, redesign, reviews, build verification, system acceptance, optimization, and continuous technical support to deployment teams.

REQUIRED

Typically, 10 years in Wireless Network design, build, and operations, with a focus on enterprise cellular and wireless telecommunications networks.

Relevant certifications such as Certified Wireless Network Professional (CWNP), Certified Wireless Network Engineer (CRE), or similar.

Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy in work.

Ability to adapt to new technologies and methodologies.

Highly self-motivated with a strong work ethic.

Ability to assist in the documentation of network design processes, standards, and procedures.

Ability to work effectively in a team environment and provide mentorship to Junior Engineers.

Experience in providing training on wireless technologies and applications.

Flexible to travel and work under aggressive project timelines.

Able to attend and represent the company at industry events, conferences, and seminars to stay updated on the latest trends and technologies.

Ability to contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the team.

CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate).

Recommended

Bachelor's or Master's Degree: In Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or equivalent work experience in the cellular industry.

Strong project management skills with the ability to oversee multiple projects.

Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Proficient in Google Workspace applications, including Sheets, Docs, Slides, and Gmail.

Pay Ranges:

Level 1 - $85,000 - $110,000

Level 2 - $105,000 - $135,000

Level 3 - $130,000 - $160,000

Level SR - $150,000 - $190,000, Bonus and Restricted Stock Unit (RSU) eligible

Level Staff - $180,000 - $225,000, Bonus and Restricted Stock Unit (RSU) eligible
