Job Description
Seeking an experienced Mirth Integration Engineer to design, develop, and support healthcare interfaces for payer and provider environments. This role involves hands-on development using Mirth Connect (NextGen Connect), building and maintaining HL7 v2.x interfaces, and implementing complex JavaScript-based message transformations and routing logic.
The engineer will be responsible for integrating major EHR systems (such as Epic, Cerner, Meditech, or similar) with internal and external healthcare applications, ensuring secure, accurate, and reliable data exchange. Responsibilities also include SQL development, interface testing, production monitoring, and issue resolution.
This is a fully remote role requiring availability during ET or CT business hours.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, configure, and support healthcare interfaces using Mirth Connect (NextGen Connect)
- Build complex JavaScript-based transformations, filters, and routing logic
- Develop and maintain HL7 v2.x messages (ADT, ORM, ORU, SIU, and custom message types)
- Integrate EHR systems with internal and external healthcare applications
- Write and optimize SQL queries, stored procedures, and data transformations
- Perform unit testing, integration testing, and provide production support
- Monitor interface performance and troubleshoot message failures and data issues
- Collaborate with architects, analysts, and stakeholders to gather integration requirements
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA and healthcare data security standards
- Create and maintain interface documentation, mappings, and operational procedures
Required Qualifications
- 5 10 years of hands-on healthcare integration experience
- Strong experience with Mirth Connect (NextGen Connect)
- Advanced JavaScript skills for message processing and transformations
- Strong understanding of HL7 v2.x standards
- Experience integrating EHR systems (Epic, Cerner, Meditech, etc.)
- Strong SQL skills, including complex queries and data transformations
- Experience supporting production healthcare interfaces
- Knowledge of Utilization Management (UM) and Care Management (CM) workflows
- Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and communication skills
- Ability to work independently in a fully remote environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with FHIR and RESTful healthcare APIs
- Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform)
- Experience working with payer or provider healthcare organizations
- On-call or after-hours support experience for healthcare integrations
