Animal Research Technician
Job Details
Job Description:
- The Animal Care Technician will be responsible for providing comprehensive care and monitoring of animals in accordance with regulatory requirements, study protocols, and company policies.
- The role includes daily animal husbandry, clinical observations, sample collection, and maintaining a clean and biosecure environment.
- Comply with applicable regulations and company policies.
- Maintain records of animal care, preventive medicine, and study-related documentation.
- Provide feed, water, enrichment materials, and overall husbandry to animals.
- Adjust and repair animal pens, feeders, drinking systems, and handling equipment.
- Perform cleaning and sanitation of animal rooms and equipment.
- Restrain and manipulate animals for routine and emergency procedures.
- Conduct daily health and welfare assessments and report abnormalities.
- Administer treatment to animals as directed by the Site Veterinarian or delegate.
- Conduct clinical observations and record disease outcomes.
- Administer experimental treatments per study protocols.
- Perform or assist with sedation, monitoring, and euthanasia as required.
- Perform biosecurity tasks including feed decontamination and sample collection.
- Assist with clinical R&D sample collection and necropsies under supervision.
- Ability to work in extreme environments (hot, cold, humid, noisy).
- Strong attention to biosecurity, detail, and timeliness.
- Able to lift up to 70 pounds occasionally and 50 pounds frequently.
- Comfortable working directly with animals in both live and post-mortem situations.
- No allergies to animals or livestock/feed dust.
- Good visual ability (prescription eyewear permitted).
- Even temperament, systematic thinking, and results-oriented.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary environment.
- Sound judgment, analytical thinking, and process management.
- High School diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
