Summary
The Director of Applications is responsible for directing the IT staff engaged in the support, maintenance, enhancements, and implementations of all enterprise system applications at BGSU. This includes the auxiliary departments and the Foundation. In this role, the Director of Applications must collaborate with the directors of the primary central user departments to understand and evaluate University priorities as they relate to IT initiatives be considered. The individual in this position is required to make sound business decisions regarding University-wide IT projects and the IT resource allocations for the approved projects and initiatives.
Essential Functions
- Leadership of the IT Enterprise Application strategic planning. This includes determining IT strategic project priorities based on University priorities and collaboration with the University leadership; the assessment of Enterprise Application solution roadmaps supplied by the technology and the cost/benefit analysis associated with all IT initiatives being considered. These efforts culminate in the establishment of a 2 to 3 year high level strategic IT plan for Enterprise Application Implementations, upgrades, maintenance and enhancements
- Administration and Management of IT resources within the Application Development area. This includes the commitment of staff and financial resources required to successfully achieve the established IT Enterprise Application strategic plans and initiatives. The IT resources includes 4 managers and ~25 technical support and development support professionals, and system analysts.
- Demonstrate creative IT solutions for resolving complex business issues at the University. Through critical thinking and complex problem solving analysis, assess potential technologies alternatives as solutions for resolving business automation issues experienced in the administrative and academic offices. This includes finding creative ways to engage technology in new ways.
- Establishment of IT Enterprise Application strategic plans, goals and directives. This includes establishing yearly goals for the area under the Director of Applications, establishing internal policies/procedures that ensure proper IT best practices which include but are not inclusive to: solid software change control practices in order to maintain a solid system operational base, documentation of the changes, meaningful and retrievable support documentation and a reliable on-call process that works for each support team. This includes but not inclusive to: the RFP process, continuing to work with ITS security and purchasing during the purchasing on new enterprise software, the assignment of project management resources and working towards level setting the work load across the project management team.
- Communication of the Enterprise Application efforts, plans and directives. This includes establishing communication standards and formats that will be utilized to share project information with many different audiences from the VP level to the general University community. This information is used in the establishment of project priorities, project statuses, application road maps, and collaboration on business needs. The focus of this area is Business Relationship Management.
- Work with the CIO's Leadership Team to set the direction of the ITS Department. This includes collaboration on budgetary and staff allocations, collaboration on the adoption of new technologies, collaboration on resolution of departmental issues and the establishment of departmental goals/action items.

Minimum Qualifications
The following Degree is required:
- Bachelor's Degree. Degree must be conferred at time of application.
The following Degree is preferred:
- A degree in Computer Science or Management Information Systems or related field
The following Experience is required:
- 5 years of experience working with one or more of the following:
- ERP implementation
- Enterprise application environment
- 4 years of Supervisory experience
- 3 years of experience managing enterprise-level projects
The following Experience is preferred:
- 2 years of experience in production support within an Enterprise Application environment
The following licenses, certifications, or registrations that are required:
- Must pass a credit and security background check
Additional Information
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Technical knowledge associated with the current technologies being leveraged by the ERP applications (web services, object oriented database, web application development), document management, data warehousing, analytics enterprise reporting and cloud computing.
- Testing and training knowledge related to the implementation best practices of ERP and third party applications.
- Knowledge of IT application development, software change management, system documentation and IT system auditing
- Project Management and Risk Mitigation knowledge and skills
- ITS Resource allocation
- 24 x 7 Enterprise Application Production support
- Disaster Recovery methodologies and Business Continuity
- Knowledge of the ITIL framework
