The Fleet Engineering Intern will work on Fleet Engineering and R&D Engineering projects. These projects may include design of tank and freight car repairs, analyzing fleet data, developing and executing test plans, and writing reports or providing presentations on their work.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:
  • Work under the supervision of fleet engineers to implement engineering solutions and work specifications on rail car repairs while leveraging internal and external resources, exercising sound engineering judgment, and ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements
  • Provide appropriate data and engineering analysis to support inspections and repairs of fleet tank and freight cars to maximize safety and reliability
  • Ensure designs take advantage of new techniques, materials, and regulatory requirements
  • Performs engineering or project management roles of new product development including:
    • Generation and analysis of concept designs
    • Development of test plans and oversight of testing
    • Creation and revision of Failure Modes and Effects Analysis

WHAT YOU'LL BRING TO THE ROLE:
  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate engineering degree program; mechanical engineering major preferred
  • 3.0+ GPA
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal & written communication and presentation skills
  • Collaborative in both one-on-one and teamwork settings
  • Flexible team player who can work closely with multiple team members to help the team achieve its goals
  • Able to assimilate quickly to navigate new/proprietary software systems

*** For a rising senior (graduating in 2027), the anticipated pay rate for this role is $27.00/hour. ***

Pay Range:
20.25 - 24.75
