Position: Acoustics Engineer II
Location: Cupertino, California
Duration: Contract
Job ID: 168390

Job Overview:
As an Acoustics Engineer II, you will play a pivotal role in designing and validating custom speaker modules for highly space-constrained products. You will lead the mechanical design of speaker module assemblies and their components, collaborating with Transducer Design Engineers and system Product Design Engineers to balance tradeoffs between acoustic performance, mechanical design, manufacturing, and reliability. This position requires innovative design work, including creating 3D CAD and 2D drawings for speaker modules and components, and ensuring high-volume manufacturability while meeting performance specifications. You will also contribute to advancements in acoustic performance and reliability by exploring new design approaches, materials, and manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities:
  • Design and validate custom speaker modules for space-constrained products.
  • Lead the mechanical design of speaker module assemblies and components.
  • Collaborate with Transducer Design Engineers and system Product Design Engineers to balance tradeoffs between performance, design, and manufacturing.
  • Create 3D CAD and 2D drawings for speaker modules, including plastic enclosures, metal stampings, and other components.
  • Review designs with suppliers and cross-functional teams, making timely modifications to address issues.
  • Manage multiple projects and suppliers simultaneously.
  • Develop innovative ideas to improve acoustic performance and reliability.
  • Ensure manufacturability of speaker components and modules in high volumes.
  • Develop test plans, generate reliability specifications, and conduct failure analysis and experiments to implement corrective actions.

Qualifications:
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent field, or equivalent expertise in mechanical design and engineering.
  • Experience in mechanical design, including generating 3D CAD and 2D drawings (NX experience preferred).
  • Ability to achieve complex geometry by understanding and influencing tooling design.
  • Experience designing and selecting materials for mass-produced injection-molded plastic parts and progressively stamped metal parts.
  • Experience in the consumer electronics industry with small or micro electromechanical assemblies.
  • Proactive problem-solving skills, including developing reliability test plans and conducting root cause analysis.
  • Ability to work with global suppliers and guide actions in assembly and part production facilities.
  • Proficiency in using dimensional data to inform part design decisions, including tolerance stack analysis, GD&T application, and part quality improvements.
