Software Guidance & Assistance, Inc., (SGA), is searching for a hands-on Data Center Technician - Relocation Project for a CONTRACT assignment with one of our premier financial services clients in lower Manhattan, NYC. This role requires being on-site 5 days/week and occasional night and weekend work as required.
The firm is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Data Center Technician to support a critical data center relocation initiative. New location is still TBD but most likely in the northern part of NJ. This role requires hands-on expertise in installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting server hardware, network devices, and core infrastructure components to ensure seamless performance and high availability throughout the transition. Key responsibilities include physical equipment setup, routine maintenance, accurate inventory tracking, and resolving technical issues to minimize operational disruptions. The technician will also play a vital role in emergency response and ensuring infrastructure stability during the relocation process. Success in this role demands strong technical proficiency, effective problem-solving skills, and clear communication across teams and stakeholders.

Responsibilities:
- Maintain accurate inventory of all data center equipment and components.
- Perform physical setup, installation, and relocation of server hardware and network equipment.
- Assist in cable management, labeling, and documentation during relocation activities.
- Conduct routine maintenance and hardware troubleshooting to ensure optimal performance.
- Respond to technical issues and emergencies to minimize downtime and service disruption.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support relocation planning and execution.
- Ensure compliance with safety and operational standards throughout the relocation process.
- Provide clear communication and status updates to stakeholders during project phases
- Work with the Project Manager and other infrastructure team members to support the 3 major phases of the project: Inventory, Strategy, and Execute.
Required Skills:
- 5+ years of data center management experience
- Technical expertise in server hardware, network equipment, and data center infrastructure.
- Hands-on experience with physical installation, relocation, and cable management.
- Strong Troubleshooting Skills to diagnose and resolve hardware-related issues efficiently.
- Inventory Management Skills to maintain accurate records of equipment and components.
- Knowledge of Safety Standards and best practices in data center environments.
- Ability to Work Independently and as part of a cross-functional team during high-impact projects.
- Effective Communication Skills to coordinate with stakeholders and provide status updates.
- Flexibility and Reliability to respond to emergencies and support off-hours work as needed.
- Attention to Detail in labeling, documentation, and equipment handling.
- Experience working on these type of projects with a large enterprise preferably banking or capital markets.
- Experience in Relocation Projects or similar large-scale infrastructure transitions (highly preferred).
- Ability to independently and physically lift & move equipment, which can be done, where accessible, with the aid of a lift or a dolly.
Preferred Skills:
- Prior experience supporting data center relocation or migration projects.
- Familiarity with enterprise-grade server and network hardware (e.g., Cisco, Dell, HP, Juniper).
- Proficiency in structured cabling standards and best practices.
- Experience using inventory management systems or asset tracking tools.
- Knowledge of data center environmental controls, such as cooling and power systems.
- Ability to read and interpret rack elevation diagrams, floor plans, and wiring schematics.
- Experience working in high-availability or mission-critical environments.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in documentation and labeling.
- Comfortable working in physically demanding environments, including lifting and moving equipment.
