Our client is seeking a few skilled PostgreSQL Database Operations Engineers to support a high-performance, cloud-native database platform. This contract role is ideal for an experienced database operator who thrives in Kubernetes-based environments and has a passion for automation, performance tuning, and database reliability. You'll work closely with engineering and DevOps teams to ensure robust, scalable, and secure PostgreSQL operations in a dynamic and collaborative environment.

Responsibilities:
  • Maintain and administer PostgreSQL databases deployed in Kubernetes (AWS EKS).
  • Execute and manage regular patching cycles, ensuring zero-downtime updates across hundreds of instances.
  • Review database changes (DDL/DML) and partner with developers for safe, efficient deployments.
  • Optimize query performance and conduct in-depth investigations of database-related issues.
  • Manage storage, including volume sizing and type adjustments, using Infrastructure-as-Code tools and GitOps practices.
  • Support and enforce data governance initiatives with recurring operational tasks.
  • Handle creation and configuration of new databases using standardized procedures.
  • Assist in identifying and implementing table partitioning strategies for performance optimization.
  • Address ad-hoc requests including schema adjustments, data migrations, and tuning.
  • Use CI/CD pipelines (e.g., ArgoCD) for deploying infrastructure changes and updates.
  • Provide day-to-day support through Slack or other internal tools, helping resolve engineering team queries.
Required Skills:
  • 5+ years of experience in PostgreSQL database operations and administration.
  • Proficiency with SQL and PostgreSQL internals.
  • Experience with managing PostgreSQL in containerized environments (Kubernetes, AWS EKS).
  • Strong background in database patching, tuning, and optimization.
  • Hands-on experience with Git-based workflows and deployment pipelines (e.g., GitLab, ArgoCD).
  • Familiarity with monitoring/logging tools such as CloudWatch, Datadog, Splunk, or OpsGenie.
  • Experience with infrastructure automation tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible, Puppet).
  • Solid understanding of CI/CD practices and Infrastructure as Code.
  • Knowledge of data governance and security standards.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and communication skills.
BonSoft Skills:
  • Professional certifications in PostgreSQL, SQL, or AWS EKS.
  • Prior experience with database partitioning at scale.
  • Exposure to Slack-based support and agile collaboration tools.
  • Experience contributing to playbook and runbook development for operational excellence.
