Job Details

Role: Cell Biologist

POP: 12+ months

Location: Remote in DC or nearby area (but once in a while need to attend meetings in White Oak, Maryland)

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • PhD in Biology or related field.
  • Training, and experience in cell culture-based in vitro test systems.
  • Proficient in culturing and manipulating human primary cells and cell lines.
  • Experience with cellular and tissue models (e.g., human primary cardiovascular cell types or human iPSC-cardiomyocytes).
  • More than 5years technical experience (after graduation) in research laboratories.
  • Training, and experience in handling human biospecimens in a biosafety Level 2 (BSL-2) environment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot, optimize, and validate experiments without supervision.
  • Ability to support technical programs through training of other lab staff, writing reports, and analysis in addition to administrative tasks.
  • Strong computer, scientific, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, self-motivation, adaptability, and a positive attitude.
  • Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, keep accurate records, follow instruction from the lead, and comply with division/center policies.
  • Experience with purchasing or procurement.
  • Well-developed understanding and expertise in molecular and cellular biology of cardiovascular relevant cells and experimentation.
  • Fluorescent microscopy.
  • Micro physiological systems (e.g., organ-on-a-chip) use and fabrication.
  • Ability to develop project plans and manage timely execution of project deliverables and timelines.
  • Experience with data collection and analysis software tools (e.g., MATLAB, Python, LabVIEW or similar statistical data analysis with R, SAS, or similar)).
  • Authorization to work in the United States without restriction or VISA sponsorship.

REQUIRED TASKS:

  • Cell culture (suspensions, monolayers, 2D and 3D).
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives for laboratory processes and will work collaboratively with other lab staff to implement changes.
  • Work with the laboratory lead to manage the laboratory such as receipt and inspection of materials and ordering and stocking of materials and equipment.
  • Work with the laboratory lead to develop and validate new methods and to improve methodology, with a specific focus on integrated cellular systems (e.g., Micro physiology systems, Organ-on-a-chip, complex in vitro models).
  • In collaboration with laboratory lead, interpret findings and communicate results.
  • Plan, develop, operate, record, collaborate and report all steps of method development, validations and/ or updated processes or platforms.
  • Troubleshoot method and instrumentation problems; be proactive in solving technical issues and problems.
