Job Description Summary
GE's grid integration High Voltage Direct Current solutions, including AC & DC substations, are tailored and designed based on a project-by-project assessment of the customers' individual requirements, whether it's for connecting offshore wind generation, long distance power transmission, or energy trading between independent networks.
The Lead Plant Engineer is the plant engineering representative at the launch of all projects and will control the technical execution of the project through closeout. The Lead Plant Engineer is accountable to define plant solutions & tools and to support proposal tender offerings and project execution.

Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for leading and coordinating all technical aspects of the substations and balance of plant for large and HV substation projects.
  • The Lead Engineer must identify key internal & external stakeholders and their needs such as technical information, execution strategy, and drive effective communications to align people for efficient work.
  • Accountable for engineering activities on the assigned project such as: schedule development & updates, design safety, planning & tracking project design reviews, design optimization, On Time Delivery, risk management, and quality control/quality assurance.
  • Interface with internal and external team members such as the Project Engineering Director, discipline PEM's, Designers, CAD Operators, Project Managers, and support organizations.
  • Responsible for the preparation and delivery of the concept and detail design for power single line drawing, physical substation general arrangement layouts, plan and elevation drawings, equipment erection drawings, construction details, layouts for high voltage bus, cable, high voltage equipment, electrical clearances, conduit, cable, and wiring, auxiliary power, grounding, lightning and control buildings.
  • Responsible to produce optimized S/S outdoor general arrangements for AIS and also indoor arrangements for HV/MV/LV equipments for control buildings and GIS buildings.
  • Capable to produce and deliver Technical specifications and data sheets for all major HV equipments
  • Must oversee if not self-perform related studies and calculations as well as development of the bills of material.
  • Manage a combined project BOM & MDL from multiple sources, writing and/or reviewing High Voltage equipment technical specifications, supporting sourcing for vendor quotations and reviews
  • Single point of contact for technical issues for the customer and project manager. This is a customer facing role that requires an assuring credible presence in front of the customer.
  • The Lead Engineer is responsible for technical change control and risk management.
  • Respond to site RFI and conduct filed inspections for compliance verifications.
  • Accountable for meeting customer engineering CTQ's
  • Support proposals and tenders for HVDC or substation projects including estimating man hours and the application of major equipment.
  • Must have completed similar HV S/S design projects in the past

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an accredited university or college (BSEE strongly preferred)
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in Transmission & Distribution substation engineering for electric utilities and renewable energy power plants and projects experience as an Electrical Project Engineer in substation type applications, including primary (outdoor) substation design and required studies.
  • Able and willing to travel 20% including international and comply with GE travel guidelines.

Desired Characteristics:
  • PE License or P.Eng License
  • In depth experience applying High Voltage substation North American standards & guidelines (IEEE & ANSI standards and codes such as the NEC and the NESC.), local Grid Codes, and related equipment (safety, application, sizing and integration). Moreover, the ability to engineer design packages when no clear customer specification is provided.
  • Experience with GE GIS equipment
  • Strong Knowledge of the design aspects for HV/MV equipments including reactors, capacitors, transformers, Breakers, Disconnect switches , BOP , etc
  • Strong knowledge on contract and project management, Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC), or Engineering equipment package (EEP) project execution.
  • Strong understanding of civil engineering and substation related structural design requirements.
  • Working knowledge of applicable design calculations for primary & secondary equipment such as battery sizing & DC system component selection, power transformer and circuit breaker selection, circuit protection, control and power cable selection and rating, bus, fittings, insulator, and arrector selection, ground grid design, and lightning protection.
  • Field-testing and commissioning experience with safe work habits. Demonstrated electrical and mechanical troubleshooting capability.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and the capacity to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent personal computer skills, including programming and design automation, and familiarity with AutoCAD, BIM and Revit strongly desired.

The salary range for this position is 98,400.00 - 131,200.00 USD Annual. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate's experience, their education, and the work location.   • Responsable de la prparation et de la livraison des conceptions conceptuelles et dtailles pour : les schmas unifilaires lectriques, les plans d'implantation gnrale des postes, les plans en lvation et en plan, les dessins de montage d'quipements, les dtails de construction, les implantations de jeux de barres HT, de cbles, d'quipements HT, de dgagements lectriques, de conduits, de cblage et de filerie, l'alimentation auxiliaire, la mise la terre, la protection contre la foudre et les btiments de contrle.
  • Responsable de la production d'implantations gnrales optimises pour les postes extrieurs (AIS) ainsi que des implantations intrieures pour les quipements HT/MT/BT dans les btiments de contrle et btiments GIS.
  • Capable de produire et livrer les spcifications techniques et les fiches techniques pour tous les quipements majeurs HT.
  • Doit superviser ou raliser lui-mme les tudes et calculs associs ainsi que le dveloppement des nomenclatures.
  • Grer une nomenclature de projet combine (BOM & MDL) issue de plusieurs sources, rdiger et/ou revoir les spcifications techniques des quipements HT, et soutenir les achats dans la demande et l'valuation des offres fournisseurs.
  • Point de contact unique pour toutes les questions techniques vis--vis du client et du chef de projet. Ce poste implique une interaction directe avec le client, ncessitant une prsence rassurante et crdible.

Qualifications Requises:
  • Diplme d'ingnieur (Licence/Bachelor) d'une universit ou cole accrdite (spcialisation en lectrotechnique fortement prfre).
  • Minimum 6 ans d'exprience en ingnierie de postes de transformation dans le secteur de la transmission et distribution, pour des services publics d'lectricit ou des projets d'nergies renouvelables, avec une exprience significative en tant qu'ingnieur projet lectricit, y compris dans la conception primaire (extrieure) de postes et les tudes associes.
  • Disponible pour voyager 20 %, y compris l'international, et respecter les directives de voyage de GE.

Comptences et qualits souhaites :
  • Licence de type PE (Professional Engineer) ou P.Eng.
  • Exprience approfondie de l'application des normes nord-amricaines pour les postes HT (normes IEEE et ANSI, codes NEC et NESC), des codes rseaux locaux et des quipements associs (scurit, application, dimensionnement et intgration). Capacit concevoir des packages d'ingnierie en l'absence de spcifications client claires.
  • Exprience avec les quipements GIS de GE.
  • Connaissances approfondies en conception d'quipements HT/MT, notamment : racteurs, condensateurs, transformateurs, disjoncteurs, sectionneurs, BOP, etc.
  • Bonne matrise des contrats et de la gestion de projets, ainsi que de l'excution de projets de type Ingnierie, Approvisionnement et Construction (EPC) ou packages d'quipements (EEP).
  • Solides connaissances en ingnierie civile et en exigences de conception structurelle lies aux postes.
  • Matrise des calculs de conception pour les quipements primaires et secondaires, tels que le dimensionnement des batteries et composants de systmes CC, le choix de transformateurs de puissance et de disjoncteurs, la protection des circuits, le choix et le dimensionnement des cbles de puissance et de commande, les jeux de barres, accessoires, isolateurs, parafoudres, mise la terre, protection contre la foudre.
  • Exprience en tests sur site et en mise en service, avec de bonnes pratiques de scurit. Capacit dmontre rsoudre des problmes lectriques et mcaniques.
  • Excellentes capacits d'analyse et aptitude grer plusieurs projets simultanment.
  • Excellente matrise des outils informatiques, y compris la programmation et l'automatisation de la conception. Une bonne connaissance d'AutoCAD, BIM et Revit est fortement souhaite.
