Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is hiring a TREDS Data Quality Specialist, in our Highway Safety Office!

The Data Quality Specialist ensures the accurate maintenance and reporting of crash data within the Traffic Records Electronic Data System (TREDS). Reporting to the Data Quality Manager, the Specialist drives data integrity, compliance with state and federal standards, and collaboration with stakeholders to advance traffic safety initiatives. Key responsibilities include overseeing TREDS functionality, providing actionable data insights, and supporting statewide initiatives to improve traffic data systems and usability. Additionally, the role includes preparing reports, maintaining essential documentation.

The Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), headquartered in Richmond, Virginia, serves approximately 6.2 million licensed drivers and ID card holders with over 8.4 million registered vehicles. In addition, DMV serves many businesses, including dealers, fuel tax customers, rental companies, driving schools, other state agencies, local governments, and non-profit organizations. Minimum Qualifications

Comprehensive understanding of traffic safety laws, regulations, and initiatives at state and federal levels, including those established by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
Strong communication skills for identifying trends, proposing evidence-based interventions, and engaging stakeholders effectively.
Knowledge of the Motor Vehicle Code as it applies to crash reporting.
Proficiency in DMV-specific systems (e.g., OnBase, CSS), Microsoft Office Suite, and data visualization tools for accurate reporting and operational improvements.
Ability to express ideas in a clear and concise manner both verbally and in writing.
Demonstrated ability to work under pressure during peak workload periods.
Strong problem-solving and adaptability skills to address operational challenges and respond to evolving priorities in a dynamic environment.
Treat people with respect under all circumstances; to manage difficult customer situations and to respond promptly to the needs of the customer.
Capacity to handle sensitive information with discretion and apply laws, policies, and guidelines effectively to ensure data quality success.
