Job Description:

We are seeking a skilled Technical Writer / Documentation Specialist to join a fast-paced IT project team onsite in Tallahassee, FL. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented communicator who excels at translating complex technical information into clear, user-friendly documentation.

You will work directly with project managers, business analysts, developers, and other stakeholders to produce a wide range of documentation for IT initiatives, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and alignment with organizational standards and Florida Administrative Code (Rule 60GG-1, F.A.C.).


Key Responsibilities:

  • Create and maintain technical documentation for IT systems and software

  • Draft project plans, business cases, requirements, user guides, manuals, and training materials

  • Gather information through team collaboration, interviews, and research

  • Translate complex IT concepts into user-friendly content for diverse audiences

  • Review and revise documentation to ensure clarity and compliance with standards

  • Work with various documentation and publishing tools (Word, Excel, Visio, Adobe Acrobat)

  • Ensure alignment with PMO documentation standards and applicable state guidelines

  • Facilitate meetings, document user stories, and prepare status reports

  • Support multiple projects simultaneously and manage deadlines effectively


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in CS, IS, Technical Writing, Business, or 3+ years equivalent experience

  • 3+ years of experience in technical and business writing in IT environments

  • Excellent communication and technical documentation skills

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat

  • Strong understanding of IT concepts and the ability to document them clearly

  • Demonstrated experience producing user, business, and technical documentation

  • Familiarity with project management tools and documentation methodologies

  • Ability to work independently, multitask, and collaborate across functions


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification in Technical Writing or related field

  • Experience in government (state or federal) IT projects

  • Familiarity with SDLC methodologies (Agile, Scrum, Waterfall)

  • Knowledge of content management systems and version control

  • Experience with Power BI, Tableau, or other BI tools

  • Experience with graphic design tools and multimedia content creation

  • Understanding of cybersecurity principles and documentation best practices

  • Experience conducting user training or workshops

  • Familiarity with ERP systems, SQL, or data analytics tools

  • UX writing/design experience is a plus

  • This is a 100% onsite role remote work is not permitted.

  • Candidate must be able to pass a Level II Background Check.

  • This is a high-visibility position supporting IT transformation within a government agency.
