About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced Enterprise Network Consultant to support CalPERS Investment Office (INVO) in designing, implementing, and maintaining complex cloud and on-prem network solutions. The consultant will serve in a senior technical role, contributing to architecture design, implementation of advanced network technologies, and providing Level II/III support.

This engagement requires a deep understanding of enterprise networking, cloud integration, security, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC). You will also be responsible for leading knowledge transfer efforts to internal staff.

Key Responsibilities

Deliverable 1: Network Architecture

  • Architect and implement scalable, secure networking solutions for cloud platforms (e.g., Snowflake, SimCorp) and INVO systems (BlackRock Aladdin, Bloomberg, Charles River, etc.).
  • Design resilient network paths with failover capabilities for critical investment systems.
  • Integrate Software-Defined Networking (SDN), SD-WAN, NFV, and use Terraform or other IaC tools for network automation.

Deliverable 2: Network Engineering & Operations

  • Provide enterprise network support including firewalls, VPNs, load balancers, wireless, and monitoring tools (SolarWinds, Cacti).
  • Maintain and troubleshoot Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE), F5, Infoblox, SecureCRT, Cyclades, and Gigamon systems.
  • Support network performance optimization and partner platform integration.

Deliverable 3: Knowledge Transfer

  • Conduct cross-training, workshops, and job shadowing for internal staff.
  • Develop detailed documentation including network architecture, processes, resolutions, and training materials.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience designing and implementing enterprise-scale network architectures.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with:
    • SDN, SD-WAN, SDA, NFV
    • Cisco ISE, DNAC, FTDs
    • Terraform or equivalent IaC tools
  • Expertise with protocols/technologies: TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, MPLS, VPN, Firewalls, Load Balancers.
  • At least one current certification: CCNA, CCNP, CCIE, CCDE, PCNSE, NSE9, JNCDA, JNCDS-DC.

Preferred Skills

  • Familiarity with INVO partner platforms: Snowflake, SimCorp, BlackRock Aladdin, Bloomberg, Charles River, State Street Bank.
  • Strong documentation and communication skills.
  • Experience in cloud-based and hybrid enterprise networking environments.
