Job Description

The Director of the Program Management Office oversees program and project management governance for the delivery of technology and business initiatives, ensuring alignment with company strategy and objectives.

Detailed Description:

This role requires a thought leader and expert in Project Management Methodology, responsible for creating comprehensive project plans to achieve program and project goals and strategies. The individual will provide leadership to Program & Project Managers and Business Systems Analysts.

To succeed, the candidate must be driven and well-organized, self-motivated, and tenacious. Thriving in a collaborative, fast-paced environment, they will drive the project team to meet agreed schedules. Management will rely on this individual to coordinate, implement, execute, control, and complete the portfolio, offering thought leadership and mentorship to junior project management team members and across the organization. This role involves leading relationships with the business, cross-impacted IT teams, and third-party vendors, with the ability to push back when necessary. The individual will contribute to monthly management report deliverables, providing status on the segment's overall portfolio health.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Lead the program/project team to coordinate, implement, execute, control, and complete assigned projects.
  • Work effectively with core program and project leadership roles to ensure success.
  • Facilitate and participate in the analysis and review of program and project deliverables.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive program/project documentation as defined by the Project Management Methodology.
  • Ensure delivery of complex large Infrastructure or Application Development programs and projects.
  • Coordinate program and project delivery and status with other bank departments, affiliates, and third-party vendors.
  • Manage programs/projects within approved budget and schedule.
  • Provide accurate program and project status reports on time.
  • Manage program/project change, risk, and issue management.
  • Document and escalate risks and issues appropriately.
  • Maintain full-scale program/project plans and schedules.
  • Update and maintain program/project information in the project management tool (PPM).
  • Schedule and facilitate program and project meetings.
  • Work with program and project team members to meet established target dates and complete activities/deliverables under changing conditions.
  • Communicate effectively with program, executive, and senior leadership team members.
  • Ensure all program and project documentation is created, reviewed, and approved by required individuals.
  • Collaborate with program and project teams on project scope and estimates.
  • Facilitate and participate in release activities for programs/projects.
  • Ensure activities are completed in support of the program/project's warranty period.
  • Follow the project lifecycle methodology consistently.
  • Work with minimal supervision, exercising independent judgment and problem-solving.
  • Provide mentorship to organization and team members as needed.
  • Manage Program & Project Managers and Business Systems Analysts.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience as a technical Project and/or Program Manager, leading large complex initiatives across various technical platforms.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience leading initiatives in a Technology environment with exposure to Infrastructure Strategy, Cloud, Repeatable/Tech Debt management, and/or Enterprise application deployment.
  • Minimum 3 years of Agile management.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in Banking or Financial Services.
  • Strong experience utilizing various portfolio project management tools (experience with ServiceNow PPM is a plus).
  • Strong experience creating and tracking project schedules in MS Excel or MS Project.
  • Strong understanding of project lifecycle methodologies (e.g., Waterfall, Iterative, Agile/Scrum) and project management processes and standards.
  • Strong aptitude in both business and technology.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to explain project risks and issues, and IT-related concepts clearly and concisely to multiple layers of peers and leadership.
  • Highly motivated with strong organizational, analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple priorities effectively.
  • Ability to provide strong program and project leadership during periods of uncertainty, ambiguity, and change.
  • Willingness and drive to learn and understand detailed software solutions.
  • High level of professionalism and confidence with the ability to build credibility with leadership, team members, and business partners, and establish effective working relationships.
  • Ability to initiate and facilitate change, whether driven by corporate needs, market, or regulatory requirements.
  • Experience leading large, cross-functional information technology programs and projects.
  • Merger & Acquisition experience is a plus.
