Title: Database Administrator
Location: Webster Grove, MO 63119

SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Database Architect will be responsible for the management of Oracle and SQLServer database environments hosted at a 3rd party datacenter. The 3rd party will provide day-to-day support and monitoring services. This position will work closely with and manage the hosting partner in order to keep the environment performing to established service level agreements. Collaborates with application development teams to define requirements, implement new database applications, and troubleshoot performance issues. The Database Architect will investigate and implement new database technologies, optimize the current database environment, and determine database requirements in support of new applications.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
o Manage hosting provider to ensure appropriate administration of Oracle and SQLServer database environments.
o Establish overall database environment architecture and standards.
o Establish appropriate end-user database access control levels.
o Manage License utilization and purchases as needed.
o Work with IT teams and application vendors to define database and database server requirements for applications.
o Work with hosting vendor on implementation of database servers and new databases. This includes obtaining statements of work, project planning, and implementation.
o Work with IT teams and hosting vendor for database upgrades and patching.
o Keep current on database technologies and work to optimize existing environment.
o Work with hosting vendor to ensure appropriate patching cycle, backups, disaster recovery, etc. are being followed.
o Work with hosting vendor to resolve database access and performance issues.
o Provide technical guidance to applications teams to assist in proper database design for optimal performance.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education:
Bachelor's degree in information technology or related field
Experience:
o 10+ Years experience working with Oracle and SQL Server Databases.
o Certifications in Oracle Database administration is a plus.
o Microsoft certification or equivalent knowledge as SQL Server database administrator is a plus.
o Experience in FDA validated computer systems environment is a plus.
o Merger and Acquisition experience is a plus.
Skills/Competencies:
o Technical Proficiency - Seen as Subject Matter Expert on the Oracle database platform. Working knowledge of MS SQL platform is a plus. Able to lead database design portions of any application project. Plans and leads major upgrades to new technology.
o Analytical Abilities - Strong - has advanced problem-solving skills including working collaboratively with peer technical teams to analyze & resolve cross-platform problems or to develop problem-solving techniques, tools & instruction for new or complex technologies.
o Business Knowledge - Very Strong - has advanced understanding of how supported technologies are used in the business operations, some knowledge of how they utilize the server and network and utilizes this knowledge in resolving them more complex issues.
o Communication skills - Strong verbal & written communication skills. Communications are complete & understandable to target audience; demonstrates effective listening skills; regularly handles difficult customers or situations effectively requiring sensitivity and diplomacy
o Vendor Management Works closely with 3rd party hosting vendor for the implementation and management of all Oracle and SQLServer database needs.
DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC/NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Participate in staff meetings and team meetings as required. Develop deep understanding of business processes and business dependencies on supported technologies. Develop relationships within IT and with supported customers and vendors to improve collaboration and teamwork necessary to accomplish organizational objectives.
