Data Lead Architect (4 Positions)
Location:
Hybrid (Baltimore City, MD / Linthicum, MD) 40% onsite Duration: 12 months, with potential 1-year renewal Clearance: Must pass State of Maryland background check
About the Role
As a Data Lead Architect, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Maryland s healthcare IT ecosystem. You ll design and implement large-scale enterprise data platforms to support CMS interoperability initiatives and Medicaid data modernization. This role combines strategic architecture leadership with hands-on engineering, making you the go-to expert for guiding teams through complex data challenges.
Key Responsibilities
Lead architecture and design of data warehouses, data lakes, and lakehouse solutions (Medallion, Iceberg/Delta).
Develop and optimize data pipelines for ingestion, transformation, and analytics.
Translate EDI X12 (837/835/278), HL7, and FHIR data into scalable models and compliant workflows.
Establish data governance, lineage, and HIPAA/CMS compliance frameworks.
Drive CI/CD, automation, and infrastructure-as-code adoption within data teams.
Mentor engineers, influence best practices, and partner closely with business stakeholders.
Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure smooth integration with CMS platforms and other Maryland IT systems.
Qualifications
10+ years in IT systems; 7+ years in data engineering/ETL/cloud; 2+ years in technical leadership.
5+ years leading enterprise-scale IT projects, ideally in healthcare.
Bachelor s degree required; master s preferred.
Strong interpersonal skills to balance technical delivery with stakeholder engagement.
Certifications Required:
AWS Certified Solutions Architect Professional
AWS Certified Data Analytics Specialty
Preferred Certifications
TOGAF 9/10 (Enterprise Architecture).
HCISPP (Healthcare Information Security and Privacy Practitioner).
