What You’ll Do
As a Data Lead Architect, you will design and implement large-scale enterprise data platforms to support CMS interoperability initiatives and Medicaid data modernization. You will provide both strategic architecture leadership and hands-on engineering expertise, guiding teams through complex data challenges and ensuring scalable, compliant, and high-performing data solutions. You will collaborate cross-functionally with engineers, business stakeholders, and CMS teams to enable data-driven decision-making, enforce governance and compliance frameworks, and drive modernization across Maryland’s healthcare IT ecosystem.
Key Responsibilities
Lead architecture and design of data warehouses, data lakes, and lakehouse solutions (Medallion, Iceberg/Delta).
Develop and optimize data pipelines for ingestion, transformation, and analytics.
Translate EDI X12 (837/835/278), HL7, and FHIR data into scalable, compliant workflows.
Establish data governance, lineage, and HIPAA/CMS compliance frameworks.
Drive CI/CD, automation, and infrastructure-as-code adoption within data teams.
Mentor engineers, influence best practices, and partner closely with business stakeholders.
Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure smooth integration with CMS platforms and other Maryland IT systems.
Provide strategic guidance on enterprise-scale data engineering and architecture projects.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (Master’s preferred).
10+ years in IT systems; 7+ years in data engineering/ETL/cloud; 2+ years in technical leadership.
5+ years leading enterprise-scale IT projects, ideally in healthcare.
Strong interpersonal skills to balance technical delivery with stakeholder engagement.
AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional.
AWS Certified Data Analytics – Specialty.
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States and pass the State of Maryland background check.
Preferred Qualifications
TOGAF 9/10 (Enterprise Architecture).
HCISPP (Healthcare Information Security and Privacy Practitioner).
Experience with AWS Glue, Redshift, Athena, EMR, HealthLake, Lake Formation, Apache Spark, Flink, Airflow, SQL, Python, and Scala.
Hybrid work model: 40% onsite at Baltimore City, MD or Linthicum, MD locations.
Duration: 12 months with potential 1-year renewal.
