Description
As a Ground Systems Engineer, provide system engineering and technical assistance within the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) Electro-Optical System Program Office (ESPO). Responsibilities include oversight of satellite command & control (C2) design, development, test, verification, and integration. Initial responsibilities will focus on overseeing the command & control software development activities of the prime contractor. Position requires communication and coordination within the SPO, other NRO organizations, and with the prime development contractor.
Key duties/responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Oversight of software development program
Ensure developer's software release schedule supports program milestones to include: Software Engineering Design Reviews, Critical Design Review, System/Enterprise testing, Enterprise Solution Demonstrations, Space Vehicle Pre-Ship Reviews, and Transition to Operations
Manage/prioritize developer Defects and Discrepancy Reports (DRs)
Manage program risks and opportunities
Verify and Validate program requirements - review of factory verification evidence for requirement sell-off to Government customer as part of Verification Review Board (VRB) process
Review enterprise Requests For Change (RFCs) for impacts to the Electro-Optical Vehicle Unique C2 Element (EVUE)
Travel to support EVUE Program Management Reviews and Technical Exchange Meetings at factory sites
Coordination with external organizations
Coordinate with NRO Ground Enterprise Directorate (GED) staff regarding the Mission Management Command & Control (M2C2) program for interface development/documentation, EVUE-M2C2 factory integration tests, software delivery planning, software architecture strategy, and Information Assurance compliance
Coordinate with Mission Operations Directorate (MOD) staff to ensure planned software capabilities support operational needs
Post launch, participate in EVUE software anomaly resolution activities
Support identification of root cause of operational issues related to EVUE software
Coordinate Operational Fixes (O-Fixes) between the development contractor and MOD for time-critical software updates

Qualifications
- BS in a STEM technical discipline
- 9 or more years of engineering experience with space-related ground systems
- Experience with Agile software development activities/milestones
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
Desired Qualifications:
- MS in a STEM technical discipline
- 7 or more years of engineering experience with space-related ground systems
- Experience working in a space system program office (SPO) or a satellite ground development program
- Experience supporting Launch and Initialization (L&I) activities
