Senior Infrastructure Engineer

In this role, you will be responsible for designing and supporting network architecture, network devices, and communication security for Industrial Control System (ICS) environments in power plants (non-nuclear). Your work will span both edge computing and cloud environments, contributing to our mission of expanding the use of reliable renewable energy worldwide.

The company is located in Herndon, VA and will be a hybrid model.

What You Will Be Doing:
  • Support the DevOps and Infrastructure team in delivering the next-generation Energy Management System (EMS) software, ensuring secure deployment both in the cloud and on edge computing hardware (IoT).
  • Assist on-site commissioning teams by troubleshooting network and server issues to ensure successful project completion.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on power plant network infrastructure, adapting networks to evolving customer needs.
  • Design and review network architectures for new sites.
  • Remotely manage industrial firewalls both in cloud environments and at customer locations.
  • Collaborate with customer cybersecurity teams to address network engineering challenges.
  • Work with Delivery and Lifecycle teams to coordinate on-site network troubleshooting.
  • Maintain and manage updates, maintenance, and licensing for customer network components.
  • Work with internal teams to evaluate, acquire, and test industrial hardware for integration into standard products.
  • Lead the development of on-site engineering and operator workstations on Linux or Windows systems.
  • Partner with the DevOps team to contribute to cloud and systems administration (90% Linux, 10% Windows).
  • Design, build, monitor, and support on-site development and QA lab servers and network infrastructure at the Herndon, VA office.
  • Create best-practice documentation and training materials for commissioning teams.
  • Provide guidance on network technology selection, including hardware and architectural decisions.
  • Contribute to product roadmaps and technology evaluations aligned with the company's vision.
  • Effectively communicate and collaborate with customers on project-related discussions.
Required Skills & Experience:
  • Experience in power plants or industrial automation and control systems is highly desirable.
  • 3+ years of experience with TCP/IP networking and configuring network devices (switches, routers, firewalls). Familiarity with Fortinet products is a plus.
  • 2+ years of experience managing IPSec VPNs and other robust connectivity solutions.
  • Familiarity with virtualization technologies (VMware, Nutanix, Proxmox, Hyper-V) is a plus.
  • Strong Linux and Windows system administration skills, with preference for Red Hat Enterprise Linux experience.
  • Experience with system and network monitoring solutions, log alerting, and dashboarding tools.
  • Nice to have: Experience with Cloud Native technologies (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform), particularly in VPC networking and firewall configuration.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering (Computer, Electrical, Mechanical), MIS, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
