GPI is seeking an entry-level Highway Engineer to join our transportation team in the Milford, Delaware office. As an entry-level Highway Engineer, you will learn all aspects of roadway design as senior engineers guide you through project development from site analysis through final design. Responsibilities:
  • Work as a member of a roadway design team in developing construction plans including roadway geometrics, typical sections, construction phasing, traffic control plans, construction details, signing and striping plans, drainage design, and stormwater management design.
  • Conduct project field assessments of existing conditions, identifying safety and accessibility needs, right-of-way, utility, and environmental impacts.
  • Assist in the design roadway projects including roadway safety improvements, new roadway alignments and grade separated interchanges as well as bicycle and pedestrian facilities.
  • Review design criteria; prepare drawings and specifications; develop quantities and prepare cost estimates.
  • Use and learn Microstation, InRoads and OpenRoads Designer.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering (Transportation). Degree may be completed within 9 months following application.
  • Engineer-in-Training Certification preferred, with a desire to obtain PE licensure.
  • Basic knowledge of roadway geometric design.
  • Basic knowledge of drainage and stormwater management.
  • Basic knowledge of computer-aided drafting programs.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Positive attitude and good work ethic with a desire to work in a collaborative environment.

Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • Maintain a valid driver's license with a clean motor vehicle report (MVR) for final consideration
  • Possess a personal vehicle for use on or around a job site
  • Read, write, and understand plans and directions given in the English language
  • Basic computer skills with the ability to create and edit Microsoft Word and Excel documents, create Outlook emails and utilize SharePoint and Microsoft Teams to communicate with other team members
  • Able to wear GPI required PPE, i.e., hard hats, safety vest, work boots, and/or safety glasses/goggles while working
