Job Details
We are seeking experienced Senior MS SQL Database Administrator & Data Engineer is responsible for designing, securing, managing, and optimizing the on-premises SQL Server environment supporting an enterprise platform. This hybrid role integrates database administration and data engineering to ensure end-to-end data integrity, efficient ETL/ELT operations, high availability, and compliance with organizational data governance and security standards.
Position Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and maintain SQL Server 2019 in clustered or high-availability environments.
- Design and manage database schemas, indexes, and performance-optimized structures.
- Perform performance tuning (index optimization, query tuning, execution plan analysis, resource monitoring).
- Implement and manage backup/restore strategies and support disaster recovery.
- Enforce security controls including TDE, TLS encryption, role-based access, auditing, and monitoring.
- Troubleshoot production database issues and support schema migrations.
- Build and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines, SQL transformations, stored procedures, functions, and SSIS packages.
- Develop reporting-ready datasets, materialized summaries, and data structures for dashboards and compliance outputs.
- Validate and reconcile data from APIs, middleware, and internal microservices.
- Ensure data quality, referential integrity, lineage tracking, and documentation of data flows.
- Maintain compliance with InfoSec, FERPA, and organizational data governance standards.
- Collaborate closely with application developers, QA testers, and release managers.
Position Requirements
- Over10 years of SQL Server administration and SQL development experience.
- Expertise in SQL Server 2016/2019, schema design, normalization, indexing, and performance tuning.
- Proficiency with T-SQL, SSIS, stored procedures, functions, and ETL/ELT development.
- Understanding of microservices-aligned database patterns, audit logging, and high-availability strategies.
- Experience integrating data from API-based sources.
- Knowledge of FERPA and PII data handling standards (preferred).
- Strong troubleshooting abilities across development, test, and production environments.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills with cross-functional teams.
