Job Description:
We are seeking a strategic and results-driven Sanitation Director to lead the development, implementation, and oversight of a standardized sanitation program across our manufacturing network. This high-impact, corporate-level role will be instrumental in streamlining operations, enhancing regulatory compliance, and driving continuous improvement through unified processes. The ideal candidate will combine deep industry knowledge with excellent program management, analytical, and stakeholder engagement skills.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Program Development & Standardization
Lead the design and rollout of a centralized sanitation program across all sites.
Standardize sanitation-related processes, including chemicals, cleaning tools, and SSOPs (Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures).
Conduct comprehensive site audits to identify current practices, assess gaps, and recommend improvements.
Partner with Procurement and Operations to align vendors and tools for cost and performance efficiencies.
Partner with engineering to ensure hygienic design is incorporated into new facilities, processes and equipment purchases.
2. Compliance Monitoring & Data-Driven Insights
Develop and implement a network-wide sanitation compliance tracking and reporting system.
Define and monitor KPIs to measure the effectiveness of sanitation practices and identify areas for continuous improvement.
Analyze compliance trends in collaboration with third-party sanitation experts and internal teams.
Deliver executive-level reports on program performance, risk areas, and strategic opportunities.
3. Escalation and Crisis Management
Develop standardized protocols for sanitation-related escalations and incidents to ensure swift and consistent response across sites.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to manage crises effectively and implement preventative measures.
4. Training & Stakeholder Engagement
Serve as a key liaison to site leadership, FSQA teams, and operations personnel to ensure program alignment and adoption.
Design and deliver training programs to drive awareness and adherence to sanitation standards.
Foster a culture of compliance, accountability, and continuous improvement across the network.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Bachelors degree in Chemistry, Food Science, Public Health, Food Safety, or a related field (Masters degree preferred).
10+ years of experience in sanitation, FSQA compliance, or program management in the food manufacturing industry.
In-depth knowledge of food safety regulations (FDA, USDA, HACCP, GMPs) and sanitation best practices.
Proven experience in leading network-wide or multi-site standardization initiatives.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities; proficiency with compliance and data analytics platforms is a plus.
Exceptional communication and leadership skills, with the ability to influence at all organizational levels.
Experience working with third-party sanitation providers and managing vendor relationships.
Willingness to travel up to 50% to support on-site audits, training, and implementation.

Skills/Experience:
Skills and Requirements
Minimum 5 years experience as a Food Safety and Quality Assurance Manager working in a USDA-FSIS regulated establishment
Experience working in a food manufacturing environment applying common processes, procedures, and equipment.
Experience with ready-to-heat, ready-to-eat, and/or ready-to-cook fresh food manufacturing business preferred. Experience working in a chilled environment preferred.
Knowledge of food safety regulations, GMPs, HACCP principles, and FSQA best practices
Experience managing FSQA teams and implementing standardized programs
Strong leadership and training skills to develop and upskill FSQA personnel
Strong data analysis skills to identify trends and opportunities.
Excellent cross-functional collaboration and communication skills
Experience / Education
Bachelor's degree in Food Safety, Food Science, or Culinary Arts
HACCP certificate required
PCQI and Intentional Adulteration training preferred
