Director of Data Strategy

DIRECTOR OF DATA STRATEGY
A global insurance brokerage firm is seeking an experienced Director of Data Strategy & Technology to do an assessment of the data organization and offer guidance and best practices to lead the transformation of their data capabilities. This is a pivotal role for someone with a strong background in both technology and insurance, who can assess our client's current state, define a clear data strategy, and guide them toward a future where data is a core enabler of innovation and business value.

This role is ideal for a strategic thinker who can also roll up their sleeves and work closely with a capable team of developers and engineers. You will bring best practices in tech leadership, data architecture, and digital transformation to a team that's ready to grow-but needs the right vision and guidance to get there.

Responsibilities

• Strategic Assessment & Roadmapping: Evaluate current data infrastructure, tools, and practices. Define a 3-5 year roadmap for data maturity aligned with business goals.


• Technology Leadership: Provide hands-on leadership in modern data architecture, governance, and analytics platforms.


• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with product, engineering, and business stakeholders to ensure data initiatives support client-facing applications and internal decision-making.


• Execution Oversight: Leverage existing development resources to implement strategic initiatives, ensuring alignment with best practices and scalable design.


• Vendor & Partner Management: Evaluate and manage external partners and vendors to ensure value beyond current capabilities.


• Innovation & Enablement: Identify opportunities to use data for new product development, personalization, and operational efficiency.

Requirements

• 10+ years of progressive IT leadership and strategy experience with a Data-focused environment


• Proven experience in a senior data or technology leadership role, ideally within insurance, insurtech, or financial services.


• Strong understanding of data warehousing, cloud data platforms, and modern data stack tools.


• Strong understanding and knowledge of data science and data analytics


• Demonstrated success in building or maturing data functions from the ground up.


• Experience working with cross-functional development teams in a digital product environment.


• Strategic mindset with the ability to translate vision into actionable plans.


• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
