Job Title: Database Architect
Location: St. Louis, MO (Onsite)
Job Type: Long-term Contract
Industry: Pharmaceutical / Healthcare (FDA-regulated environment)
Summary:
We are seeking a seasoned Database Architect with expertise in Oracle and SQL Server to oversee and optimize our enterprise database environments hosted at a third-party data center. This position will manage the hosting partner to ensure SLA adherence, assist with architectural decisions, and support application teams in building performant, scalable database systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage third-party provider for Oracle and SQL Server administration and support.
- Define and enforce database architecture standards and end-user access controls.
- Partner with IT and vendors on database requirements, implementations, upgrades, and patching.
- Manage database licenses and capacity planning.
- Troubleshoot performance issues and lead optimization efforts.
- Support disaster recovery planning and backup compliance in partnership with the hosting vendor.
- Provide technical leadership to application teams for schema design and performance tuning.
- Stay updated on evolving database technologies and propose relevant upgrades or changes.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor s degree in Information Technology or related field.
- 10+ years of experience with Oracle and SQL Server database environments.
- Proven ability to manage third-party vendors and complex hosting environments.
- Strong experience with database performance tuning, licensing, patching, and architecture.
- Effective communication and stakeholder collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Oracle DBA certification or Microsoft SQL Server certification.
- Experience in FDA-validated systems or healthcare/pharma environments.
- Experience supporting M&A activities involving database migrations or consolidations.
