Job Details

Tesla is on a path to build humanoid bi-pedal robots at scale to automate repetitive and boring tasks for manufacturing/logistics. As a member of Tesla's Optimus Simulation team, you will be in a unique position to accelerate the pace at which the Tesla Bot Autonomy stack improves over time.
The Optimus Simulation Team focues on building core components to virtualize all aspects of the Tesla Bot within our simulator, ensuring seamless integration and accurate modeling. We rigorously test all Tesla Bot software releases to identify and address any regressive behavior, maintaining optimal performance. Our work involves generating synthetic datasets and creating reinforcement learning environments to enhance neural network training. Additionally, we strive to bridge the sim-to-real gap, enabling the Tesla Bot to perform effectively in real-world scenarios.
As part of the simulation team you will primarily contribute to improving the state of the physics simulator. These include implementing new simulation features, addressing sim to real gaps, and improving run time performance.

Responsibilities
  • Own and implement features in physics simulator to improve contact physics, run time performance, etc.
  • Develop and implement methodologies and tools to help address sim to real gaps
  • Closely collaborate with AI/RL teams to address gaps in simulation software
  • Keep up to date and implement the latest research/technologies in the fields of humanoid robotics and simulation

Requirements
  • Deep understanding in one of the physics simulators (Ex: Drake, Mujoco, Physx, Simulink, etc.)
  • Experience in GPU accelerated physics
  • Strong proficiency in C/C++ and Python
  • Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics, or a related field or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge of machine learning techniques and optimization methods for improving simulation accuracy and closing the sim-to-real gap
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex systems

Compensation and Benefits
Benefits

As a part-time Tesla employee, you will be eligible for:
  • 401(k) with employer match
  • Employee Assistance Program
  • Sick and Vacation time
  • Tesla Babies program
  • Back-up childcare and parenting support resources
  • Pet Insurance
    • Expected Compensation

      $120,000 - $360,000/annual salary + benefits

Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
